Another p*ss poor team selection by Pardew.
Yacob and Barry against 3 in the midfield and giving Lemina, who is one of the more elegant midfielders in the league, all the time in the world to dictate play for the entire half.
I can't for the life of me see why so many managers rate Rondon. This is a player who takes forever to see simple 5 yard passes into midfield that would keep the play moving. It's no surprise to me that we played some football against Liverpool with Rondon warming the bench. Not quite sure what Rodriguez has to do to be deemed a better option after scoring a worldy against Pool.
We needed everyone to be on form today to get anything and they really haven't got out of 1st gear. I can only hope they get a rocket up their arse at half time, but it seems we have too many players in their shells, looking for the easy backwards pass all the time when there's a chance to turn and go forward. Given how Southampton dominate the play, I can't see a way back, but hope I'm wrong.
Surely Nyom has to go off, Brunt to left back and Burke on the wing. Rodriguez for Rondon is a no brainer.
