Unfortunately I think yesterday you witnessed the inevitable results of the decline Paul Cook foresaw before baling out.

Random, insignificant investment wasted by Saunders, next-to-none for Danny, which left Caldwell with a job which was wholly beyond him. Jack started from the back of the grid in a car the mechanics hadn't touched.

Perhaps yesterday's display will do more for the club than the previous two victories. We have until midweek to save ourselves. Otherwise we will be relying on Jack's make-do-and-mend skills and the unexpectedly successful recovery from injury of a couple of players who may or may not have more to give.

A very young keeper can be prone to dreadful errors. That's why NEVER again should the club we love leave itself in such a position. But the positive aspect is that he came through 42 minutes more without falling apart. What we're asking of him is hard. Jack needs to pick him again next week ....... and the crowd needs to chant his name. If everyone gets behind him, if he's really got it, he'll respond. Goalies want to save their team. Goalies want to be heroes. Make him a hero and he'll become one.

Unfortunately Dancing is right, limiting goals against is relatively easy if you do it by killing goals for.
