A quite astonishing performance by the lads. Who, if anyone gave us a chance? Liverpool on a lengthy home undefeated run. Albion struggling like mad in the league. Every player put in terrific efforts especially Rodriguez, Dawson, Hegazi. Brunt and Barry rolled back the years with stonking performances and Krychowiak really looked a high-class player. I felt Nyom had one of his best-ever games for the club and Foster made some great saves towards the end.
This game serves to remind everyone that we are still a club with PL pedigree. It will be a bloody tragedy if we are relegated when we know we can play as well as this. We have surrendered so many points from winning positions that we should be pushing for Europe rather than where we are.
I can recall the last time we beat a very good Liverpool side in 1968 and went on to win the cup. Clearly we have to focus on the dogfight to stay in the Premier this season but a good cup run could be a nice distraction. Finally Krychowiak (ex PSG) and Gibbs (ex Arsenal) are on the winning side for us against high-class opposition.
This was one the Baggies' greatest victories for years. Let's all hope that tomorrow when the dust clears and we count the cost- in terms of injuries to Livermore, Evans, Robson-Kanu and Gibbs, that we have not paid too high a price.
