As for the game Rangers were the better side until the ordering off and we struggled to get any foothold up until then,who knows what would have happened if it stayed 11 v 11,McCoist is a very poor manager his substitutions were crazy,I know Miller was raging and he could have got sent off but surely you get him over and calm him down instead of pulling him off and replacing him with Foster? I'm still astonished he took off MacLeod too.

If it had stayed 11 v 11, it probably would have been a draw.

Now before apoplexy hijacks your train of thought, consider that the following is my opinion of the game, as I saw it: -

Smith's tackle was reckless, but it wasn't worth a red card. In the replay you can even see him pulling out of the challenge before contact was made by his knee on Patterson's standing foot. I've no doubt it was a challenge for the ball (you can even hear the ball being played off Smith in the TV audio, which Sportscene shamefully tried to use to prove that Patterson's leg had been broken or something) and not an attempt to injure the player. Mr Thompson was swayed by the explosive reaction of his fellow Hearts fans, it was as simple as that.

Miller's challenge was actually a fair one - he played the ball not the man (as his reaction to the award of even a foul indicates) - but it's unusual for him to make challenges at the best of times and it was certainly an indication of his state of mind at the time. I'm not surprised he was raging, it's not easy playing 10 v 12 at his age.

Boyd's challenge was a typical attempt to block a clearance, but the defender's foot followed through and kicked Boyd's foot. It wasn't worth a yellow even, but again the referee was influenced by the proximity and reaction of his fellow fans.

It's worthy to note that all three incidents happened right in front of the Hearts fans, and on all three occasions Thompson reacted just as they demanded. Compared to the various attempts to elbow Jon Daly's head right off his shoulders which merited either no reaction, or laughably a free-kick against Daly. Patterson's blatant elbow on Daly early on, set the tone.

Black's penalty challenge was clumsy but it wasn't sufficiently robust enough to cause the player to crumble to the floor. Again though, it has become ever so clear that if Thompson can give a penalty - even for the most tenuous of reasons - against Rangers, he will.

And yeah, that all sounds like I'm saying that Hearts won only because of the referee, but I'm not. Holt's goal was a fine, controlled strike, but the opportunity only came about because of McCulloch's piss-poor positioning and therefore his desperate attempt at a clearance. Yet another case of a Rangers 'defender' not knowing how to be in a position to defend properly. Like I said though, a fine hit that deserved a goal.

As for McCoist, well his team selection baffled more than just me and El Car, his substitutions baffled more than just me and you, and his after match comments on Miller and Smith smack of very poor management skills. Any finger-pointing McCoist feels the need to do, should be done in front of a mirror.

Rangers shouldve been like the 1970 Brazil side the last few seasons waltzing through the divisions yet most of the time the players have gone backwards (Black, Law, Templeton) and its been hoofball, lack of ideas and no improvement
Boyd and Miller could still waltz this division, Boyd was superb last season and dosent become bad overnight

Don't worry about McInnes though, he's safe at the Dons for the foreseeable. We're stuck with McCoist until his own embarrassment shames him into resigning, and I couldn't see McInnes wanting to drop down a division while everyone at Aberdeen is more than happy with him.
