In a world in which from politics to sport hatred is fast becoming the defining principle, Baggies fans perhaps should reflect on the fact that outside their local rivals they are a club which attracts little animosity and not a little genuine affection across the game. I'm not a Baggie and never will be, but I like the Baggies being in the Premier League and I like them to be themselves. Their style isn't the accepted route to success, and it's unlikely they'll ever be able to buy the top prizes either, but a proper West Brom' team goes out with hope in its heart and its eyes on the opposition goal. I hope 2018 sees Baggies loving their team again as it climbs the table. (But ironically a Palace under Hodgson and Pulis at Swansea would provide two rivals you'd do well to stay above.)
