Tony Morley grabs the second goal of his hat-trick as Albion beat Huddersfield 3-2, 24th October 1987
Whether he has nine, nineteen or ninety-nine lives, they're all running out for Tony Pulis. Last week's defeat against Man City was to be expected, but it did nothing to help our present situation, and if this week's away trip should see us deliver another performance like Southampton with a result to match, you have to wonder whether the axe might just fall at last.
That trip is, of course, to Huddersfield, who have made a nice and steady start to life in the Premier League under David Wagner. Our meetings have been few and far between in the 21st century, and it'll be nice to get reacquainted at these lofty heights: our last encounter in the top flight was back in 1971-72, when Bobby Gould was Albion's scorer in a 1-1 draw. The more superstitious among you might take that as an omen.
It would have been nice to go into this match with nothing riding on the result, but alas, some three months of highly dubious football have put paid to that. As an Albion fan who (obviously) doesn't want to see his team sliding into the drop zone, inevitably I'd like to see three points any old how, but if we don't get the win - and more to the point, if we don't *deserve* to win based on our performance - then it might just be the last nail in the Pulis-shaped coffin.
If anyone fancies doing a Simon Garner for us, now would be the time.
