Preston North End 1 Barnsley 1 Att 12800
Maguire 23 Potts 26
In the end probably a fair result in a game which both sides could have won, plenty of positives for North End although the loss of Pearson for a longish spell is a bit of a blow. The midfielder didn't play against his old club following his injury at Middlesbrough, North End were also without Johnson as well. Gallagher, Spurr and Mavididi came into the side with a welcome return after nearly a year out for John Welsh on the subs bench.
A fairly low key first half which North End having the better of the first 25 minutes although the experienced Hamill down Barnsley's right caused North End problems.
The home side took the lead mid way through the half when Barkuizhen got in down the left hand side put is a decent cross which Maguire headed past Davies in the Barnsley goal.
The visitors were level three minutes later when Hamill put in a cross from the right, it looked to hit Potts's back before going into the net. The goal rocked North End and Barnsley were on top for the remainder of the half, Potts should have doubled his tally from about 18 yards ended up high in the Town End.
Barnsley should have gone ahead when they got in down the right hand side very early on, somehow not sure how Ugbo missed from three yards but it was a great clearence by Fisher.
This sparked a period of pressure were we did everything bar score, Huntington header well saved by Davies, two Barnsley defenders in quick succession tried to score for us, but the visitors weathered the storm and with the intorduction of Moncur they began to look dangerous with Maxwell having to make a decent save from the ex Colchester man.
Both sides pressed for the winner with Harrop showing some showboating skills although it was one of hisn dreadful corners which eventually was cleared from the line.
Barnes could have won it late on for Barnsley after some non too clever keeping by Maxwell, he blazed over when well placed and Maguire was denied right at the death by Davies.
Fair result but plenty of promise.
Fair play to Hugill put in a decent shift, Mavididi looked good in phase, cameo from Harrop. Earl possibly had his hardestb game some inexperience at times, top dog for me Tommy Spurr.
Finally on personal view the lack of pump beer on the Finney deserves a season ticket refund although the first two cans of ale that they poured were almost frozen solid which did bring laughter..

Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
