If there are any doubts about Tommy...

The point is Ricky German is just the first example of how we are letting ALL OUR youngsters down.

I told you weeks ago that at the first opportunity Charlie Wakefield would be out of the match day eighteen. Not good enough? The crowd thought so just weeks ago when they applauded him off. But he's gone. Guess we're looking loanwards now. Delial, well he was looking a bit young wasn't he, so he's out. And Dimaio, well he would've been loaned out if he hadn't got crocked.

And look at the loans we CAREFULLY find for them. Yes, the youngsters need to play with and against men. The operative word is play. Two poor sods to Sheffield FC ....... so they're just being Jack Waddled, that's a message, forget them now. Ricky to Alfreton, who are keen to keep their old centre forward in the team ....... he's done too isn't he? Charlie'll be gone soon, then you'll hear that Joe Rowley needs games to get over his injury and he'll be off on loan to somewhere fairly obscure. Any development these players achieve will be totally accidental and due to a club other than Chesterfield. You might call it generationocide. And it happens throughout the football world, because many of the thick men who achieve managerial status in the game have little or no interest in bringing youngsters over that final step into first teams. Why? Because the manager fears for his job, his club's unproven youngster's are a risk. If you've got to have a youngster, because that's all you can afford, grab one of the hundreds at Man City ..... Man City youngster - that'll impress the fans even if we lose ....

Step One: if you loan a player out, WHERE matters. If Ricky German REALLY isn't good enough for Alfreton he should be at Clay Cross or Staveley and playing shouldn't he? Or sitting watching next to you Pooch. All he can learn watching Alfreton is how to be a non-league player and how to keep his frustration under control.

The ONE really good thing about Chesterfield FC when this manager arrived was more youngsters pushing against the first team door than I could remember in my lifetime. The few short months, that seem like a lifetime, since his arrival have brought one of them to the edge of first team status before injury struck and the rest have all taken at least one, if not several, steps back.

And when you take that lingering look at the talents we threw away notice the joe-anyon level of the signings we've replaced them with. Paul McGinn wasn't good enough, but Jak McCourt and Robbie Weir are? How quickly McGinn was snapped up by a team in Scotland tells you something ........ and it isn't anything good about Gary Caldwell.

Don't blame Ricky IF he isn't good enough for Alfreton. If he isn't good enough he obviously shouldn't be there. And if he is good enough their manager should be hearing from ours that we think he could burn up defences in the National League. What is actually happening is further proof that the place to look for us after our next league game will be bottom of the table (Port Vale willing!)
