Released by Swindon the season after winning Player of the Season, that's a big step down. Picked up by Chesterfield is last chance saloon, or maybe you think we are a bigger club in a bigger town than Swindon. The eight players I listed are on a downward trajectory because they have no transfer value and are unlikely to create themselves such a value. Ugwu might if he scored 15 this season, but that's beginning to look unlikely, Donohue has proved he's wanted and if Dennis started scoring he'd have a value too. Even Tommy's worth nowt now.
(Apparently Flores CAN play full back .... ish)
The youngsters are a different thing. They CAN create themselves a value for the club. We've only played German against non-league opposition this season, but every time he has played the team has scored at least 4. GC has never played him competitively, so how does he (or you) know Ricky's not up to it? The crowd has applauded Charlie Wakefield from the field this season, how many others have they done that for in GC's time? Joe Rowley had a couple of good games. I'm hoping he can repeat that, but remember Craig Clay, comes on to the field, heroically hauls the team back to the most unlikely draw against Crewe - didn't make it with us, been around, then to Grimsby, up to Motherwell, now he's on the bench for an Orient conceding 6 at Bromley. Didn't he develop, or didn't we give him the chances when he was ready and needed them? How are we going to treat Joe when he's fit? Will we make him a man, or will he become that boy who burned bright for a couple of games and got forgotten? Then there's Maguire, we proved last season our centre backs didn't work. We've loaned in Anderson (TWICE!!!!!)..... and now they are good enough? That's dreamtime, quick teams will always exploit them. (I dunno if Maguire's good enough or quick enough, but together Hird and Evatt aren't the solution, so is it Jay Smith, is it Conor Fowler or Ify Ofoegbu? Or are we off to market?)
By the way, despite his age I'd give Roberts serious thought because he makes goals and scores a few too. In our squad which of our players would you say that about with any confidence?
Anyway Pooch at least Wigan and Middlesbrough have started okay for you. Please let us win today and play well. (By the way I'm convinced that if a keeper can survive the warm-up they ridiculously go through these days HE'S FIT. Start the team with Tommy Lee and admit Joe Anyon would be better employed sitting next to me watching the horse racing!)
