The opening game of the season is always eagerly awaited, hope springs eternal etc, however this morning the overwhelming feeling of doom about this, worried about the defence and whether I woul get to the ground in time due to it being national tractors clogging up all roads in your area day.
Tremendous atmosphere at the kick off, sawa frenetic start no real goal scoring opportunities, what was apparent was that Wednesday were slightly hestitant at the back in the early stages.
The only thing that was certain was that both Pearson and Forestieri would see cards and both duly, Wednesday had one effort from Jordan Rhodes which went wide, it was a rare spotting of the He scores when he wants man, ended early with him being subbed in the second half.
North End efforts from Robinson and Maguire whose shot was well saved by Westwood at his near post. Our dead balls as per preseason were in the main shite. Speaking of Westwood he seemed to waste an in ordinate amount of time in the first hallf possibly due to seeing which blue seat he could hit when he cleared the ball, he hit a few.
Second have we mostly dominated and should have scored but two Robinson efforts, another Maguire shot and a Spurr headed which hit the bar and nearly a own goal by a Wednesday defender were the closest we got until about 15 minutes from the end Hugill powered his way into the area and appeared to be brought down, the official gave the spot kick, have to say it looked a foul. John took it sent Westwood the wrong way.
Could have been two when again Hugill got through but apparently used his hands so it didn't stand.
Wednesday were unlucky when Maxwell waved goodbye to Wallace's free kick which went narrowly over and his ability tomrush 90m yards from goal when both he and Huntington left a ball for each other luckily Forestieri's header went the wrong side of the post of an unguarded goal.
They worked their socks of today, Maguire tremendous work rate, however the back four gave a tremendous performance, like I said deserved win.

Preston manager Alex Neil:

"Our strength is that we have such a good team spirit, they work so hard for each other and we got what we deserved today.

"When you have that amount of pressure, you want what you deserve. We could and maybe should have scored more.

"That's three points on the board now. Notoriously in the last two seasons we've not started well so it's pleasing to get three points on the board."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal:

"We deserved to lose the game. We were out of everything. We ran too much in the first half but with no brain.

"We didn't win too many second balls, Preston won all the second balls. We had one or two chances, Preston had more than us so congratulations to Preston.

"No excuses about us, we must do much better to win games in the Championship and we must analyse this game to do better in the future."
Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
