IMO the crux of it is that we need to recognise what is, nowadays, a realistic price for a player. It seems like we are OK with taking in all the "greed league" payments but, unlike clubs of similar (and even smaller) size, are very loathed to pay it out again on players.
Of course, as has been said many times, we don't want to become another Leeds, or Bolton, or Wigan, but I don't think we're expecting to pay out what we haven't got - we'd just like to see the club competing with similar clubs, FFS, on the transfer and wage fronts.
Constant penny pinching will catch up with us, and I'm fearful that this will happen THIS season unless we suddenly come to our senses.
