Why can't we just pay the feckin going rate just for once and sign the player.

I'd imagine that Mr.Williams values him (even under current ridiculous Inflation) at less than £10m.
You would think that the Club work very scientifically in evaluating all prospective players and not just react to "the going rate", and that's the right way to do business. Any w*nkers like those employed at Wolves, Villa, Blues, etc must regret not doing the same, and that's probably why they're where they are.
I don't rate Gibbs at all; every match I've seen him he's been very lightweight. But he's about our level, and given the "£40m limit" that's been reported, I'd rather spend big in other areas. Nyom is not great, but he's almost as good as Gibbs in my opinion.
