Matt without an effective midfield all you do is put pressure on the defenders with wave after wave of attack, just like last season. When our defenders do win the ball who is going to take it forward with a killer pass onto our forwards? We lacked it all last season and we all know what happened. GC likes to play with 2 wingbacks in the midfield 5, problem is if somebody else in the middle of the park doesn't win the ball we can be 1 nil down before we get started.
It will either be hopeful long balls from defence with about a 20% accuracy rate or a wingback crossing to ? who exactly, Dennis @ 5'3"? CoG who isn't a striker? - before you say it German will be on the bench.
Some people say I don't know anything about football and maybe they are right but give Dennis the ball at his feet and he is a goalscorer, try to put it on his head and he might as well be on the bench.
To me this team lacks drastically in midfield. 5-5 as line up is something none of us have ever seen before. Maybe there's a reason why.

That's why you play O'Grady or Ugwu upfront with Dennis they can head the ball down for Dennis to latch on to and put in the back of the net. It used to work with Steve Fletcher and Jamie Ward.

Best form of defence is attack that's why you need your midfield to press as high up the field as you can to put the opposing team under pressure especially when they are on the ball and force them to make mistakes. You say we need a ball winner well why do you think Jak McCourt has been signed, he's a ball winner who can put a killer pass through to the forwards.
