With the sale of Davy Klaassen to Southampton and the appointment of Marcel Keizer as Head Coach, (Keizer was Head Coach of the Ajax reserve team Jong Ajax) Ajax's 20 year old centre midfielder Abdelhak Nouri finally had his chance to become a first team regular after breaking into the first team squad during the second half of last season.
Fast forward to last Saturday and Abdelhak Nouri collapsed during a friendly with Werder Bremen after he experienced heart arrhythmia. He was airlifted to hospital and put into an induced coma. Now today it has been confirmed that he has serious and permanent brain damage with a large part of his brain no longer functioning. The chances of recovery for these functions is 0.
This is such a shame and means that his career is over before it really had chance to take off.
