It looks more of a 4-3-3 squad to me too, or even 5-3-2 ........ otherwise why the duplication and triplication of defenders? But all managers always do unexpected stuff normal human beans wouldn't consider. I don't mind GC's tactical plan, indeed I think almost any formation CAN work, but the players are the ones who have to put it into effect, they have to believe in it, it has to suit them, and they have to make it work.
Last season that was all a massive step too far for everyone and even an experienced player like Sam Hird was holding up his hands to the bench asking what was supposed to be happening ..........
In friendlies the opposition is concentrating more on getting its own game together than disrupting you. A Mansfield or Forest Green will be disrupting any plan. A Port Vale will be getting the ball up front to a very dangerous striker like Tom Pope. Luton will have 10,000 very loyal fans behind them if they're doing even okay. Coventry might just get together a real life football team despite their owners. Swindon will want their reputation for playing a bit of football back .........
And we look hopefully at our ten signings and our youngsters and maybe ......... maybe it comes together. But we did only win 2 in 19. That happened. To be fair the manager has changed almost everything and everyone he had the power to change. But there's a lot of chaotic stuff still within the club. Doubts about the squad are nothing compared to the bigger picture.
