Dancing, it's quite hard to pick a 3-5-2 formation when you give someone else first choice of an eleven and we only have about six midfielders in total ........... As a formation I've no objection to it but you have to have the players to make it work as last season proved.
Wiseman's favourite position is right back. So is McGinn's and Barry is a right wing back ........... You'd think that means a back three of Hird, Evatt and Maguire. That gives us two slow players at the back again. Left side we have Binnom-Williams, a left back and Donohue, left back, wing back, midfield on the left. Additionally Binnom-Williams is 6' 2" and could be a prime candidate for a back three. You could go for a back three of McGinn, Maguire and Binnom-Williams. Barry or Wiseman for right wing back, Donohue on the left. Evatt AND Hird could be out all together.
All I'm trying to show is that even limiting selections to the players we leave out of our potential first elevens it is pretty easy to produce teams of "also-rans" that might expose lots of weaknesses if the teams met. In one way it is very good that there is not much to choose between the players, but it is easy to be carried away by the notion your team looks good on paper. You have to think what an opposition might do. If our left-outs could run the chosen ones close, what might Steve Evans do? And there will be a difference between playing Sheffield FC and Forest Green Rovers!
