I have praised him many times and am always ready to eat humble pie BUT I really don't like him or his brand of Football. Although we finished 10th we now suffer the same horrible Stigma of how Stoke were perceived and I hate that. The common denominator is Pulis.
Both my kids are season ticket holders and my daughter thinks he's great as does my Missus. My 16 yr old son really dislikes him as do I. Could it be that we know more about football than they do?
Hope my missus doesn't read this as I'll be Barron for a month
I travel around the country for work and my experience is that most fans of other clubs are gobsmacked at the amount of hate Pulis gets from Albion fans. Most seem to think we play decent stuff.
Now for me personally, I agree entirely that Pulis' football isn't ideal. I'd much rather see more possession, more men pushed forward and less backs to the wall stuff. BUT at the same time, I think we have come on since he came in and his signings for best part have been decent.
As a Baggies fan, it's very much a 'be careful what you wish for' situation. The thing with Pulis is you don't feel like you're going to go down with him in charge. He sets up a side that gives everyone a game, particularly at home. Given that our board historically don't back any manager, giving him the boot could well result in us playing lower league football.
It's really easy to play dross football and go down in this division. My honest opinion is that the big money in the Premier League is responsible for most teams playing with a 'don't lose' mentality. Even those with foreign coaches are the same - just look at Boro, Watford, Southampton last season. They all scored less than we did.
As I say, I'm no Pulis fan and actually when he was recruited my 'ideal' situation was to bring him in for a year and then get someone in to rebuild us the following summer. As that hasn't happened, I'd like to see him properly backed and then judged. IMO he was let down by the board last summer and in January (when we again made a profit) and could've pushed for a decent finish.
To bring this back to transfers... In my opinion, the lack of action is down to the board and not TP in my eyes.
Last summer was pretty pathetic by Premier League standards but that was blamed on the 'change of ownership'. January was lousy but that was blamed on 'primary targets not being available'. So let's see what happens this summer and what the excuse is...
