Oh....and James Chester....and Ricky Lambert....and he ignored 2 damned good transfers from the previous year - Gamboa and Poco.
Although I personally that Chester was not good enough at right back or centre half in a back 4, he was sold at a profit, so I don't think that can be considered a failure.
Lambert was a failure. I'd forgotten about him.
Gamboa and Pocognoli are very much open to debate - but in my opinion, there's nothing to suggest TP made mistakes here.
Pocognoli played a few times for us and looked decent but very rash. He went to Brighton and struggled to break into their team. I guess we will see if they go after him now we've released him.
Gamboa wasn't favoured by Irvine either, who was in charge when we signed him. He was second fiddle to Andre Wisdom that season. He's gone to Celtic and barely played too, so is he really Premier League standard? For me, there's absolutely no way I'd put him ahead of either Dawson or Nyom at right back. I admit, I would've liked to have seen him given more of a chance when he was here - but evidence since his move suggests there was probably a reason why TP preferred Dawson.
