If we'd gone down we could then have decided whether he'd shown enough promise for a decent contract or we were going to appoint a new man.

As it is we have ended up with a Mrs May in charge. GC quickly accepted our help in turning himself into a lame duck. He created all his own detractors with a series of mistakes and defeats that culminated in a much more humiliating relegation than we were facing prior to his arrival. SO, now he has to magic up a team out of limited resources that the fans expect to chase promotion. To make it worse our biggest rivals have a widely-hated manager who is recruiting far more established players than our own. George Osborne says Mrs May is a dead woman woman walking, I bet GC knows she feels. And what of Mr Carson? If this squad can only turn 50% possession into 2 or 3 shots, when does he cry enough and start looking at dismissal procedures? By the end of September we will have played 11 league games, that's almost a quarter of the season. Much as I love Matt's glorious optimism of 4 games 10 points, I'm considering 10 points or fewer by the end of September as a real possibility. And what do we do then ..........?

I'm no bookie, so I've not calculated these odds in my favour, or even seen their odds, but my current assessment of who'll win our division is:-

Accrington  18/1              Colchester 12/1               Grimsby      22/1             Notts Co   33/1
Barnet        40/1              Coventry   15/2                Lincoln       25/1             Port Vale  11/1
Cambridge  16/1              Crawley    50/1               Luton          7/1              Stevenage 28/1
Carlisle       16/1              Crewe      22/1               Mansfield    9/1              Swindon    9/1
Cheltenham 50/1              Exeter      18/1               Morecambe 100/1          Wycombe  22/1
Chesterfield 40/1              Forest Gr  14/1               Newport     66/1             Yeovil       33/1

And of course signing an influential midfielder would change my opinion of our chances. Ricky German scoring four in a friendly, or Tommy Lee being full fit would too ........

I don't think Dancing need contact Robert Carlile and Tom Wilkinson for advice on doing The Full Monty.

You think it might go all a bit House of Cards? Whose Francis Urquhart?
