I for one would not class Varadi, Banno or Champan as legends, not because they weren't good players but that none of them made enough appearances for us, in fact none of them made over 150 appearances for us!!! Mark Bright comes into that category as well although he may have a better shout for that one goal in 1993!! For a player who didn't play a lot of games (300+ minimum) for us, then for them to be legends they have to be probably the best we ever saw in that position!! Thats how Roland Nilsson gets in for me but that rules out others such as Mark Bright.
Devils advocatehow would you class Waddle on then ?
Waddle falls into the category as probably the best players ever to play for SWFC in his given position but played less than 300 games. Same as Nilsson.
Who do we class as out and out legends that we have seen play then??
David Hirst
Nigel Worthington
Chris Waddle
John Sheridan
Kevin Pressman
Mark Smith
Mel Sterland
Carlton Palmer
I would include these for sure.
Terry Curran only played 140 odd games, but I would also include him because of his impact on the club as a whole.
