Guy Branston, like the pickle not the bus unfortunately, is one of the last men I'd have guessed as a development specialist. His whole raison-d'etre on the field seemed to be to prevent anything developing at all, but did I in a million years think I was watching a future Premiership manager when I was shouting "open the gates" as Sean Dyche pumped his flailing legs down towards Saltergate as yet another cross hit the point Dave Pugh used to rattle from the edge of the area with one of his Park Drive shots? Guy might be a connoisseur of silky skills and Ticky-tacky Pete-Seager football or whatever they have in Spain.
Like Dancing I reckon now is the time to get our most promising young lads out on the first team field to see if they are ready to deliver. I hadn't guessed Rowley might be ready. And I don't reckon anyone can really tell until they give the boys a try. I do think they need to know though that it doesn't have to be like baby birds fledging. If the first flight goes badly they don't get eaten by the cat ......... they get another try.
By the way I love Matt's understatement, "was a bit surprised we managed to get a draw". I thought I was being outrageous forecasting a 5-0 defeat at Bolton, a 10-0 forecast from Matt ........... what can you say, it's like registering mild surprise at a North Korean nuclear attack on Glossop.
