Another defeat

Matt my only alteration to that would be that I object to SEB now cynically using us as a shop-window after robbing fans blind for almost two years. So I'd replace him with Simons and and put one from Nolan / Mitchell / Gardner into his place in midfield. AND I'd load our bench with as many of our own younger players as possible and start getting them onto the field in the next few weeks. I also can't see why Caldwell, as an ex-centre back, doesn't bring Raglan back for a look-see before we decide to discard him. I'd have thought that was an obvious move.

(O'Neil has been regularly getting a game at Cambridge till now and much as I'd like Liddle to be the explanation for Carlisle's decline I think Charlie Wyke going to Bradford was pivotal as Ibehere now seems to be struggling for fitness.)

Like Matt I don't think the club can keep sacking managers (especially when perhaps it ought to be the other way round). The trouble is that by throwing Caldwell into a job that only perhaps his predecessor or a specialist relegation-avoider might have succeeded with is we have branded him as a flop in front of our fans, other clubs, potential players and buyers of the club. Wigan sacked him when he'd won 2 in 12 and now he's got us just 1 in 12. That has to impinge on his own decision-making this season, his ability to build next season, our ability to recruit - it changes everything. That's who we've made him, having already created an image of ourselves as a club owned by a former Chairman who says he wants to sell, but is keen to take up only impossible negotiating positions. We look like what we are - a club in chaos. I'm not surprised Mr Caldwell found January recruitment difficult - even Jurgen Klopp would have struggled to talk anybody with a future into choosing us.

Unfortunately I don't see how this goes away except by DA selling the club, or Caldwell starting to win. And I don't know which of the two is more unlikely. My fear is that by treating Mr Caldwell properly and sticking with him we are condemning ourselves to limp into next season, having recruited poorly and failed to blood our youngsters. The alternative is The Dancing Solution, which would be to sack him now I'm guessing, & appoint Humphreys immediately ..... in the hope that the club's problems off-field might resolve with a vibrant, young manager we all like fronting the operation with a decent team playing its socks off for him.

I wish I could be an optimist like Bluepooch and find positives like, we are finishing games stronger. I'm afraid I find it difficult to forget it took us only 1 minute to concede. It frightens me for us that Mr Caldwell complains of having talked extensively to the players and then they go straight out and concede. AND HE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE QUESTIONING HIS OWN PART IN THAT ......... I keep looking at the glass. It's neither half-full nor half-empty, it's cracked and the Champagne's evaporated. Sorry.
