I agree about the wages Pooch, but look at the loans, just two of them - one is a very good Championship player who Villa were fools not to keep and the other plays in the Bundesligia ......... They were additions to our strength, Caldwell's boys really aren't better than what we've got.
My thoughts as regards the manager are that the next two games are convenient. If we were going to escape we'd have to win both (for a start). If we gain 4 points or fewer Mr Caldwell should be called before what remains of our administration/board and offered the following choices:-
1. Leave now by mutual agreement - a nice guilt-free story would be concocted not to harm his future prospects.
2. Sign a good contract to stay until the end of next season that we would honour, agree to start re-building NOW, accept the insertion of swingeing penalty clauses should he leave for another job, or try to do so, BUT fully explain the financial position of the club he is taking on.
3. Face the sack either immediate, or at the end of the relegation season, judged on his results.
If/when Caldwell opts to go, or is sacked, we appoint Mr Humphreys. And he re-builds.
I'd be surprised if we could beat Shrewsbury, but Peterborough are anybody's guess, they could put six past us, or lose.
Whilst we are talking about rose-tinted specs, compare Mr Caldwell's fumbling, idiot start, designed to wreck any remaining team spirit with Danny Wilson's second game. How many did he put past Shrewsbury? Was it SEVEN? Let's ask Len Goodman ....... that's one to consider tomorrow.
