I'd love Caldwell to succeed but what happens on the field is largely irrelevant.
The key is what is going on inside Mr Allen's head and what he really wants to do. I doubt if even Mr Carson really knows that.
Mr Allen is responsible for our current plight BUT he's also been responsible for a lot of things that seemed good and hopeful. He's in a position to behave like the Oystons or become our Abrahamovic if he wants. He can sell us or turn down every offer. He could become our own Mr Scrooge or even call in our debt and put us out of our misery.
For all we know Mr Allen may have been given 18 months to live, is sorting out his affairs and realises that publicly revealing his illness would not be a great negotiating strategy if he wants the best price ......
