It includes perhaps my favourite Bomber goal at 2:22 - pretty sure it was in the surprise FA Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in about 1970. What incredible technique!
Well worth a view
Drewks,
We were right in front of that goal (on Leppings Lane). It was the 1st game of the 70s, and followed our 68 triumph and 69 semi (same ground), so we were very disappointed with the result. But to see THAT goal was worth all the disappointment! It came from nowhere - no foreplay, no build-up, just whoooosh! I remember that Jack Whitham got Wednesday's 2 winning goals - he went on to an anonymous career with Liverpool soon afterwards.
I stored that goal as "my best ever", but years and years later I heard Bobby Charlton describe it as the best goal he ever saw - praise from Caesar!!! It's been bettered since, as players' technique has improved 10-fold in the past 20 years, but I automatically bring that one up when the "best goal" subject is brought up.
Ecstasy!
