Can't say I could see much option to Gboly going at some point ....... and he hasn't scored this season, and in my opinion a wide man who never scores is simply no danger. He has to start scoring to be a Championship player.
O'Neil has worked his way back home. Started at Histon, went to West Brom, then Chesterfield, now back home to Cambridge. He obviously got one of those difficult to calculate train deals - clever of him really.
The fact that the lad from Birmingham was getting games under Gary Rowett and isn't now they are losing every week is a decent recommendation. But the others are boys who are unknown quantities. We've got rid of three youngish men, who had no long-term future with us (and one old bloke no one liked) and we have replaced them with four boys. They will have to be both decent players and have a combative attitude to keep us up. On the face of it the strategy looks like one our rivals will be applauding. I think you get out of trouble by togetherness and an influx baby loanees doesn't seem to hit that mark.
To be honest I wouldn't mind that much going down with a team bristling with young players IF they were our young players like Maguire, German, Beesley, Hand, Wakefield, Ofoegbu, Morrison ........... because at least they'd be on the road to becoming the basis of our next team. Unfortunately if Mr Caldwell's strategy fails we'll be in Division Two and we'll be almost starting from scratch.
There's whole lot riding on Saturday - please don't let Tope Obadeyi score for Oldham. I'm sure the town's not ready for another Poochstreak.
