Interestingly, today's win leaves us in almost exactly the same position as this time last year: 13 points from 10 games, 0 GD, having scored three more goals but also conceded three more goals. Obviously under Clarke, this was where it all started to slide towards mediocrity, with two draws in the next two games closely followed by four defeats on the trot (two of which were against teams in the relegation zone). For Irvine, the upcoming games are eerily similar, with matches against big teams (including the dreaded return to Stamford Bridge), form teams and sides who are going to be in the mix, plus the Villa derby.
It's going to be a testing time, but on paper, two wins and a couple of draws between now and Christmas would probably be enough to keep us ticking over.
