It could simply be a vote by MPs or a thorough debate or anything in between!! But even if there is a debate, what will it actually debate? From what I can tell it will be a wish list of what they hope to achieve out of the negotiations but until those negotiations actually take place we have no idea what the EU will let's us get away with. If we are to pull out I would also prefer we didn't have to show our hand in public, makes negotiating difficult!!
Davis has confirmed it will have to be a full debate as an act of parliament will have to be passed. So no it wont be a vote on a narrow resolution.
All this "lets not show our hand" talk is nonsense IMO and masks the fact they haven't a clue what they are doing. The argument was that this vote was caused by immigration, well we can't have single market entry without freedom of movement. That's a starting point in the same way that Scotland was to be denied the pound in our referendum.
Ultimately clarity about the government’s objectives would enable a serious discussion with other Member States to get underway, and minimise economic damage. If may cant win in the supreme court,i reckon you can kiss goodbye to starting this in march next year too. So with that in mind you may well be right about a general election - but a vote of no confidence would be required first.
