You're right Matt that Robinson is in the frame for Wigan .......... but as a scouser he'd have suited us too.
You're right too Pooch that there are managers who would take the job - there are only 92 such jobs and loads of potential managers. But could they do any better than Danny until the window opens? And would they be the right man or just another desperation choice?
I think Ritchie Humphrey would be a very good choice. The positives are that he couldn't do worse than the current run and he must now know the club inside out, but the huge negative is he inherits a very moderate squad that could just give him months of defeats to set off and ruin a managerial career. He's a man I didn't want at the club, but he has impressed me. He's our future.
None of this makes me willing to shit on Danny Wilson, a loyal, decent man who is one of the best and most committed players Chesterfield has had during my long lifetime. In less than a year in charge Danny pulled us out of Dean Saunders' tailspin to relegation and though he's also made several mistakes, but wouldn't we be wise to ask why the club repeatedly paints the same picture under different managements?
At our level every player signed comes with an element of risk, that's why they are down here, but we've now almost a clubfull of players for whom FAIL was written in much bigger letters than success when they arrived. Our captain Liddle was unwanted in our own division, Ebanks_Blake was lucky to make the bench at Preston, Dimaio wasn't wanted in Sheffield, Mitchell was in Chelsea's considerable garbage, Donohue had boinged miles down from West Brom ...... The odds were against everyone we signed - even Ched was being examined with barge-poles with which no one would touch him.
You can sometimes make a silk purse, but we are permanently happy at Chesterfield to take the risk of coming up with a pig's ear.
