Terriers v Owls

John Smith's Stadium

Sunday 16th October

12 noon

[Image: keep-calm-were-top-of-the-league-having-a-laugh.png]

At the time of writing we are top of the league (I say we are top of the league) on 25 points. The Owls are 9th on 17.

Overall, we have the better of Sheffield Wednesday with 24 wins to their 18 with 12 draws. Unfortunately, recent stats aren't so favourable; we haven't beaten them since 23th Nov 2013.... not that we should be worried about it.... we have broken longer records than that this season!

The last 6:

Us W W L W L W
Them L W W L W W

It's close!

The Wendies still have that little tosspot, Forestieri playing for them, although he is not the main goal threat at the moment. Hooper, Lee and Fletcher are all on three goals each this season. Gary Hooper had his greatest success at Celtic and Steven Fletcher at my Scottish team, Hibs. I don't recall anything about Kieran Lee. Ex-Terrier Jack Hunt continues to lurk around defence and will likely receive a pantomime villain's welcome on Sunday. Perhaps SCO will give us a lowdown on their players' form.

We expect the away stand to be a sell out as well as the home areas. Despite being on telly, we should have most of our season card holders there plus any gaps filled up with those getting in for a tenner. I know this because when I tried to get one for our friend and our block was completely full. There was only one left in the adjacent block and half a dozen in the one to the other side of us. What do you reckon? .... 22,000? I sneakily hope that the shirtless Owl won't have managed to get one. That's something we don't need to see on a Sunday lunchtime.

Did you know that Sheffield Wednesday were known as the Blades once upon a time? I heard that on Radio Sheffield the other day and looked it up and 'tis true. There are two possible reasons. One is that Hillsborough was built on the site of a pig slaughterhouse and the other is that it's to do with the steel industry.

I fully expect Andy Booth to be wheeled out for the half-time draw. It's become a bit of a tradition, that.

Nah, not him, this one....

No doubt my little match thread will not be taken in good part by some of the Owls. Perhaps that's because they suffer from ...

Excellent thread, young Chaffinch.

Ticket office said tonight only 1500 tickets left for this one. Should be a record league attendance for the stadium.

I think both teams have improved lots since we last played each other on Sky at our place. Anybody remember it? No? An insipid goalless bore draw.

As for Boothy. Thanks. With the money we conned out of Wendy back then, we bought the best player ever, Marcus Stewart. And picked up Andy Payton and Andy Morrison with what was left.
Then got him back for nowt a few years later.
Bargain. Big Grin

Young Chaffinch, you have our old club crest on the OP, we have moved on to a new one now!!!

As regards the Blades thing, not only were we originally called the Blades but we also played at Bramall Lane!!  The Blades reference does indeed come from the cutlery industry that was big in Sheffield at the time.  Our 2,000 tickets sold out a while ago, I am sure we would have sold more but your new found supporters with cheap season tickets have put paid to away fans getting the old 4500 tickets like we used to.  I am sure our fat bastard shirtless fan Tango (Paul Gregory is his real name) will have a ticket, he is at every game so I would imagine is first in line with away points to get a ticket every game.  He is actually from Wolverhampton, not Sheffield, but has been a Wednesday fan for years.

Hunt may not play, he has been poor so far this season but then that mirrors out defence as a whole so far this season.  We probably have the best midfield in the division, just not sure Carlor knows how to fit them all in to the right formation.  We have created more chances than any other team in the Championship this season but are struggling to score enough, so either we will lose this one through a defensive error or our little tosspot will find his scoring boots and we will come away with the points.

Imre's loving a first-up pipe-up isn't he hahaha. Confident we can win on Sunday as long as we keep Tomasso Daley quiet. Don't think we'll keep a clean sheet but if their defence hasn't been playing well I expect Kaching & Palmer to go to town on them. 3-1 Town. UTT.

Tango was down at Wembley on Friday night for the England game, he was serenading Rooney as he came over to take a corner. Love him or loathe him,you can't knock his dedication of following Wednesday and at least he's better than the Wednesday band who most people seem to dislike
