Bluepooch set me thinking
#1
Pooch's list of former players who scored on Saturday set me thinking. I had some time on my hands and very soon I started contrasting the team that trotted out on Saturday to imaginary teams of our reserve players, injured players and former players. I ended up with a five-team tournament. I'm pretty sure Saturday's team wouldn't win it ...... or even come close.

As we used two subs on Saturday, I made teams of eleven players and two subs as follows:-

CHESTERFIELD SEPTEMBER

                          Fulton
McGinn  Hird   Anderson   Donohue
Ariyibi   Liddle   Dimaio   Gardner
                        Wilkinson
                             Evans
Subs:   O’Shea    Dennis             -     Manager Danny Wilson

THE PHYSIOSERVES

Lee
Graham   Evatt   Maguire  Jones
    O’Neil   Angel  Nolan
             Mitchell   Simons
German
Subs: Daly   Morrison   -   Managers Ritchie Humphreys and Roger Wylde

THE OUT OF TOWNERS
                O’Donnell
Darikwa   Cooper  Raglan   Talbot
           Morsy    Ryan    Clucas
   Roberts     Ward
                        Doyle
Subs:  Richards    Bowery      -   Manager - Paul Cook

STILL PLAYING

Chapman
  Brindley     Downes     Smith
Boco      Clay    Randall    Banks   Devitt
           Boden       Gnanduillet
Subs:    Slew    Ebanks-Blake   -   Manager - Chris Turner

     THE LOAN STARS
Carson
Hunt    Wood   Margreitter   Grounds
  Johnson     Moussa      Davis
Ajose
  Leon Clarke          Lee Novak
Subs:    Gobern    Kevan Hurst       Manager - Martin O'Neill

I had to let Clinton Morrison play with one of our current teams though he's out on loan, and Aaron Downes is still at Cheltenham I think - though career-threatened. Apologies to all those players I've forgotten.

On a league basis I reckon it would be between Out of Towners and Loan Stars. Our side from Saturday might beat Still Playing but could even struggle with Physioserves.  Whaddy'a think? (Gary McSheffrey didn't get a game because I'm not sure if he's at Donny.)

I agree Dev out of towners and loan stars would probably cancel each other out.

Hows Talbot doing at Pompey ? Not heard anything recently
The Loan Stars should be the best really as usually a loan player is someone on a too high wage for us and we can only afford part of that wage which invariably makes him a better class player .

Talbot got injured in training last week and is facing several weeks on the sidelines last I read - hope that was a pessimistic report. I always thought Drew put in whatever he had on the day and gave us great loyalty. Wish we still had him!

I realise he was getting fragile, but it does seem a bit like abandoning an old horse because he's slowing down.
