We might be waiting a while.

I don't think it's a case of happy to survive it's just being realistic with what we've got at this moment in time.

At this moment in time we've got a chairman who has stood by FFP rules while most of the others have broken it or gone for broke this last season...the next set of FFP results will be interesting.

At this moment in time we have a decent team when fit but a very average squad at best.

At this moment in time we have what's looks to be a promising coach who given some backing in the summer might just take us to the top half of the table next season, let's not carried away with play off talk though.

At this moment in time we've struggled to get 10k through the gates despite what Town announce as the "gate".

As I said before he's hopefully solved the left back problem, he's bought a centre back that surely can only strengthen our defence.
He's bought in VLP that has pace and trickery.
He'll bring in goalies, he'll bring in midfielders and he'll bring in a striker as long as Dean loosens the purse strings.

I've said before we are looking at a Premiership player who's name will turn heads when he signs, I've also a feeling that our record transfer fee will be broken this summer.

I will - but at my age I might be dead if I've to wait another 4 years. Big Grin

Right, I don't see any reason to be fearful whatsoever, in fact I think this summer is one to really look forward to. We took a massive gamble on an unknown quantity who comes highly regarded in Europe and has a footballing philosophy which most modern football fans (possibly under a certain age, granted) agree with. Wagner was Dean's gamble so I fully expect him to be backed with loosened purse strings in the summer transfer window - although the 2 signings we've made shouldn't be viewed as 'freebies' as they're well thought of footballers who could have remained at their current club or signed elsewhere, but they signed for us instead. I have no doubt Lowe will be a brilliant signing but have to admit to knowing naff all about Hefele, although a 6'5" ball playing centre back sounds good to me! Also, if you look at what we lack at the minute - leaders - we've done brilliantly to bring in 2 players who both captain their current clubs.

For all those panicking, look at our starting 11 on Saturday:

Steer - Won't be here next season
Smith - Average at best, not a key area to look at but I'd be surprised if we didn't
Hudson - Won't feature heavily next season
Lynch - Overrated and wouldn't at all be surprised to see him move in the summer
Cranie - Playing left back because our only current left back is dire, won't feature next season
Whitehead - Past it, will feature fleetingly next season
Huws - Average, won't be here next season
Scannell - Can't see him featuring much next season, doesn't fit into Wagner's system
van La Parra - New signing, looks promising and hopefully will only improve
Matmour - Hopefully doesn't have his deal extended, passenger
Paterson - Hopefully here next season but I'm not holding my breath

Why panic when pretty much that starting 11 is nothing like the team who will start next season? We've already addressed our 2 weakest positions and I've no doubt we've got a big wish list this summer which we'll go after aggressively. Dean's said the money's there from Smithies, Butterfield, Coady, Clayton, Rhodes et al so this needs to be the summer where he proves it. I'm really hoping next season is Billing's breakthrough season too, he looks the real deal to me (unlike Holmes who never looked anything other than a kid playing with men) and he has the technical attributes to play the way Wagner wants us playing.

Currently we've way too many players who aren't technically good enough to play the way we need to play, but if we support Wagner and pay the sort of money required to get the players of the correct ability I've no doubt we've got nothing other than good times to look forward to.

I share your optimism, Cas. Can't wait for the new season. Usually I'm thinking thank god that's finished for a few months.

In regards to scannell i think a preseason might help him, he spent a while injured and dropped down the pecking order so i wouldnt rule him out and i also would rule out the possibility of his speed and strength elsewhere on the pitch. Dw has done it at bvb with klopp before.

As for lynch he's a little overrated purely because when he's good he's very good when he switches off or has a poor game he's the complete opposite. Again part of me sees him in a different position providing the right signings are made at centre back

Perfectly summed up Cas, I really would like Pato to stay but if we could find someone as good or better then it wouldn't be the end of the world. Not sure I'd go as far to say Whitehead is past it but I would rotate him next season with Billing and hopefully another quality player in that position. Huws can go back, too much money and hasn't done a lot in the last few months. Steer's performances have dipped a lot in recent weeks too. Not fussed about him going back. Lynch really is viewed by some sort of demi-god on here and DATM, he makes a lot of mistakes and if someone came in with £2m I'd sell. Everyone thinks because he's got pace that somehow excuses him from his poor reading of the game at times. Matmour can go too, hasn't done a lot and can't see why some fans think he's a gem waiting to be uncovered.

Thought Patso was going off at half time. Wagner gave him a rollicking just before when he got to the byline and sent in a crap cross.

Someone on t'other Fred's (JA606) has claimed that if it weren't for the points we got under Powell we'd have been relegated. We got 15 points under Powell in 15 games (16 if you count the L666s defeat at home). We finished up with 51. Under Powell at best we'd have got 45-46 but most likely way less. Now I know maths is apparently an issue with the SATS tests but I thought  even the chaps on there were older than primary school age. Yeh OK as I said in my Brizzle Fred, we've done better this season under Wagbo. Even Mirf can't argue with that. We need another improvement next season though. Rotherham probably won't keep Colin for next season and I doubt the Brewers and whoever wins at Wemberlee will be better than us next season.

I agree with Cas, the team that started at Brentford will in no way resemble the team that starts next season , my first thought when i saw that team on saturday was

"huh Wagner's starting pre season early"

as it stands right now, on paper, with the players we have starting 11 would be

Goal keeper to be determined

Smith Hefele Lynch Lowe

Hogg Billing

Van La Parra Bunn Lolley

Wells

yes we need to strengthen some keys areas would be nice to get Paterson, and another half decent striker to take some pressure off wells but lets not panic just yet. Wagner has earned some patience from us
