The roly poly goalie at Hampden - what a standing ovation by Hibs fans!!!
#1
I can't recall such a spectacle at Hampden on Saturday after years and years of randomly supporting Hibs in cup semi-finals and finals. A goalie who, after another great save from John Rankin's 'daisy cutter', received that standing ovation from Hibs fans all around the stadium - it wasn't for the Hibs team at that point but for the goalie! Amazing! It just proves that we have been starved of watching a solid, all round performer in this position for far too long, and by gum, what a positive reaction and huge appreciation expressed by thousands of cabbage fans throughout the stadium. A unique event indeed to revere a guy who I previously compared with another cult hero Hibs goalie, John 'Budgie' Burridge!!

0762,
How right you are we have had to watch a succession of "average" keepers over the past 9 or 10 seasons and,at last, we seem to find a gem that will spread confidence throughout the team. It saddens me to say if Oxley had been in goals I fear we might have lost over the 90 minutes.
The board need to move quickly and sign the big man up before his loan spell is up or we could lose him as we did Sparky. I admit one game proves nothing but Logan looks like he can do a job for us.

He certainly deserves every plaudit he receives, 0762. We both know that one brilliant game doesn't make him the answer to our prayers, but he single-handedly got us into the Scottish Cup Final.  And you're right, we now see what we have been missing from our team.

He reminds me of one of the first keepers I saw at Easter Road, the equally solidly built Willie Wilson. I saw him in both legs of the Summer Cup Final v Aberdeen, but missed the replay because I was back at school.
Cabbage is still good for you

You can't give old fatty a long term contract. He's a 5xl shirt term stop gap for sure.

I'm still laughing at the sight of his jiggling moobs and gut hanging over his shorts.

There's no one here - not even 0762 - can claim they'd label him as a professional sportsman?

He had the game of his career but you can maybe see why he didn't have a club - he had the whole packet.

I loved his shouting down of the utd players at the penalties.  Laugh

When we saw him come out immediately the thought was that he looked a bit 'sunday league'. But fair play to him,he might be huge but he got down well enough for shots and commanded his area well. He can play a bit.

He's got cult hero written all over him.

Willie Wilson!!! Now that is a well remembered Hibs goalie from the past ritchiebaby! And the famous three game Summer Cup final v Aberdeen in 1964 (?). That was the start of the Stein era and we played Real Madrid later on in a glitzy friendly and upstaged them, Puskas n all, with the great Willie Hamilton, a star man! Those were the days.
Wilson eventually replaced by Ronnie Simpson who a few years later (moved to Celtic with Stein) presented me with my first football medal - a runners up medal in a national final. I was just a lad but better times followed in years to come! Fond memories indeed!

Aye hibeejim! One of the few games that the legendary Dino Zoff lost five goals after leading Hibs 1-4 from the 1st leg in Naples. I was there and the Bobby Duncan 'raker' early in the match from the halfway line was one of the most stunning goals ever seen! Pat Quinn, Cormack, Stanton all heroes. Then toe to toe with Revie's Leeds Utd in the next round of the Fairs Cup- robbed on an away headed goal by 'giraffe Charlton' and they were lucky!! Colin Stein carted after a heavy tackle when they couldn't handle his bustling style of play! Magical days indeed when Hibs had a real Euro footie pedigree about them!

I meant to mention earlier this 29 year old roly poly goalie is much bigger than Willie Wilson. Indeed his nickname in the Hibs dressing room is the Polar Bear for obvious reasons!
