Players/Pulis My thoughts
#1
Ive managed to wrangle myself a quite after in the office all alone so I though I would spend a bit of time putting together my thoughts on how the season has gone so far. So that everyone has something to complain about instead of thinking about the impending doom of Man City way.

All my views are based on what I have seen THIS SEASONas a season ticket holder (First year with a season ticket, due to living 125 miles away from the Hawthorns).

Foster - Glad hes back fully fit. Im a fan of Myhill but I think Foster pips him to the gloves for one main reason. Foster at times pulls of wonderful acrobatic saves that are world class, I cant remember ever seeing Myhill do that (I could be wrong). I know his kicking is rubbish but for that reason its Foster for me.
Myhill - Decent 2nd choice keep. Could easily be a 1st keeper in the Championship or lower Premiership. I do think he is behind foster at Albion thou.

Olsson - Hard to make my mind up about Olsson at times he looks as solid as a rock and others he looks tall and gangly and like hes going to trip everyone up. Decent as a 3rd or 4th choice CB but not a started if everyone is fit for me.
Chester - Against Bristol Rover in the pre season he was useless! He was so poor against Bristol City at the Hawthorns Pulis took him off! Since then hes had a bit of a run in the team and every time I have seen him he looks to be getting slightly better/sharper in every game. I think with a good run of games he could become a decent albion player.
Evans - Class on the ball, you can tell hes a quality player. If he gets a good run in the team next term I could see him leaving in January. Should be playing at CB every week so we can get the most out of him.
Poco - Havent seen much of him this season. Good attacking LB but not the best defender, he likes going in hard, which 9/10 is fine the 10th time thou penalty I can see why Pulis only plays him when he has to.
Gamboa - Against Bristol City in the replay he looked decent. other than that he hasnt shown anything near the form he did in the world cup, I wouldnt miss him if/when he goes.
Dawson - IMO I think he is extremely underrated starting to see him as a right back now not a CB. I think with a bit more work he can become a decent RB for a good 5 years. Great in the air wins most things, like to see him scoring a few more with his head thou.
McAuley - Professional, quality player. Yes at times he looks a tiny bit old but still as good as ever if not better. Has a very high standard in every game so when he a little bit below par it really shows.

Yacob - Big fan of Yacob I was worried he was past his best. But since January (and Sandro coming in) he has really stepped his game up. Against United he was brilliant probably the best game I have seen him have. Hopefully we can get a few more years before he goes back to South America. He seams to have calmed down a little bit this season as well.
McLean - In fear of starting a riot on the page, I think McLeans alright. The biggest cheer (non goal related) I have herd all season at the Hawthorns is when McLean fist pumped near the Sunderland fans. This is a player who does not do things by half when he tackles he tackles! Granted he has nowhere near the skill of Sess, Mozza or Mcmanaman but he makes up a little in passion. Im not saying hes a starting 11 player, I just think hes good enough to have around the squad.
Morrison - At times Morrison looks to be fading and others he looks as good as he always did. Never really blessed with pace but can certainly run with the ball. IMO hes not a first choice pick for the starting 11 depending on who is in charge and the system that is being used. I would be happy for him to sign a new deal, but wouldnt be heart broken if he left.
Gardner- I am a big Gardner fan. Hes not the most naturally gifted football and he makes his fair share of mistakes. But always willing to put in the effort at time has a killer shot on him. I think he has the best footballing brain at the club! He knows when to stop a player to break up the play even if it means getting a yellow. A few cheeky words in Cazorla ear was enough for him to miss that penalty. Really knows how to get the fans going I feel.
Brunt - Good club player. Again based only on this season, he is probably past his best. His set pieces are nowhere near what they use to be, can pick out a long range pass maybe 50% of the time these days. As a Left back of a left winger I think he has fallen out of the starting 11. Very good and experienced player to have on the bench as he can cover a lot of positions.
McManaman - Total idiot! Maybe the most technically gifted player we have. I was in Turkey for the Chelsea game watching it on the TV, but both me and a Chelsea both agreed he was amazing and always a threat. But 15 minuets does not make a season. Getting a second yellow for Diving in an U21 match what an idiot! I totaly understand why Pulis would not want to play a cheater (At the end of the day thats what a dive is cheating)
Fletcher - Leader of men! Hes done everything won everything domestically, decent on the ball can play a pass and willing to get stuck in! Great leader at times shows his age but still worth his place in the starting 11.
Sess - Started the season in no mans land, I think someone on the site even said he was playing with the U21s. Managed to put the effort in and work his way back into Pulis plans, which is no mean feet. Can glide past players like they are not there, Ive noticed in recent games teams are puttting two players on him and he is losing all his influence on the game. Has shown signs of forming a deadly partnership with Rondon and Saido.

Big Vic - Where to start ON HIS DAY I think that Big Vic is a top class player. Pace, strength, Passion! Just he only has one of these a season. I think if we could keep him injury free he would become a brilliant player for the baggies. Although if he wasnt injury prone I doubt Everton would of let him go.
Lambert - I was at the Pre seaon Bristol Rovers match where Lambert scored 2 goals and looked good!! Against a lower league team. He looks totally out of his depth at the Albion/the prem. Hopefully he could do alright at a Championship team next season.
Saido - Forgetting last season and just looking at this year. I think Pulis was right to drop him and only play him from the bench. Since he has got his head switched on he looks like hes getting back to the player he once was. I really hope we can keep hold of him at least for another season.
Rondon - Some weeks he looks class, some we he looks like another Ideye. I dont think ive seen him stop running this season even when he looks half dead. First half of the season he looked a little bit lost but seams to be forming a decent partnership with Saido/Sess now.

Pritchard - Looks good on the ball the few times I have seen him. Brilliant cross field ball to Fletcher I think against Peterborough in the replay. Again I dont think hes better than either Sess or Mcmanaman so I can under stand why Pulis wont pick him.
Sandro - When he cam in I was looking forward, hes a bit better on the ball than Yacob a "tiny" little bit more flair (I said tiny) since he has come in thou Yacob has regained his old form.
Gnabry - Nothing too say about Gnabry, dont think he was good enough to get into the first team so rightfully never saw him really play. Maybe he should of got to a championship team not WBA.

Pulis - I think I am a Pulis fan (not 100% sure). I think that we should keep him next season a see how he can bring the squad forward. I like that he drops players like Mcmanaman for diving Sess and Saido for throwing a strop thats what some of these players need. I good strong willed manager who isnt going to take an rubbish. If we could bring in a Moyes or a Rodgers I wouldnt be sorry to see Pulis leave, but for now I dont think Pulis has done anything wrong enough for us to be wanting rid of him.

Anyway Ive had my rather long say. So based on everything Ive said If I was picking my choice for starting 11 It would be a 4-1-3-2

------------------Foster------------------
Dawson -- McAuley -- Evans -- Chester

------------------Yacob-------------------
-------------------------------------------
Gardner---------Fletcher-----------Sess

I have to say DB you have pretty much written exactly what I would have about the players and Pulis this season. It can obviously be frustrating when you have a manager that sends a team out to be very defence minded but I also think thats how a team with our budget can survive relegation. At the end of the day we're 11th on 40 pts with seven games to go we could easily finish with our best ever premier total and that would be a decent season in anyones eyes. Oops maybe I shouldn't have said that lol!

Foster- anyone had to be better than beer belly Myhill
Gamboa-hopeless at defending but could of been used on right wing as he has pace and a decent final ball
Pocognoli-if he`s good enough for Lukaku he`s good enough for me
McAuley-class all season
Olsson-bambi on ice and never a premier league footballer anymore
Chester-been made to look a mug playing at full back
Evans-class all season but very injury prone which is probably why utd got rid
Dawson-class all season
Brunt-never a left back in a million years and gets done for pace
McClean-thick irish loud mouth, shite player with zero skill
Yacob-our best player this season
Morrison-class all season when fit
Fletcher-when he`s good he`s good and when he`s bad he`s bad
Sandro-headless chicken who cant make a forward pass
Gardner-huffs and puffs but deep down we all know he`s a villa reject
Sessegnon-kept pulis in a job bringing him back mid season
McManaman-always looks a threat when playing but pulis hates him as he`s to attacking
Gnabry-to skillfull for pulis so got shot
Pritchard-to skillfull for pulis so sits on the bench every game getting splinters
Anichebe-waste of space
Lambert-worst signing in clubs history as the bloke cant even move
berahino-totally miss managed by pulis
Rondon-bag of shite and would of been better giving ideye another season
Pulis-awful manager who has no plan b, has to go in summer, might of got us 40 points but the league is garbage this season

Rainbow, racist comments do not only apply to the colour of someone skin you know, it also applies to sterotyping people by there race.

Now I am not one of the PC brigade and I think that comments like yours about McClean depend on the context they are used in, for example, if you were to turn round to a friend at work who happened to do something daft and happened to be Irish some may argue that the use in that context is OK (I know there are some that would still say that is wrong, but I am not that bad).  However when the comment is used with venom as you have that qualifies it as racist in my book.

You are of course entitled to your opinion on Pullis and you may think McClean is the worst player in our squad and have the right to say so, but without the slurs if you don't mind

Back in the 70's and 80's many of the fans at the Albion took a stand against racist abuse of our players from opposition fans and I am not about to accept it without challenge now, especially from our own fans.

OK had my say and off my soapbox

Agree Salop, well said.
Rainbow - why do you have to be so aggressive with the tone of virtually everything you post on here? It's not winning you, or your opinions, any friends

Totally agree Tidy, the Rodon comments surprised me a fair bit as well.

Are we sure, a certain person has not been reincarnated??

Rainbow we all know you're not happy fella but honestly the guys are right you need to think a bit more before you post and the venom and hatred is way too OTT.
IMo Berahino has been very well managed by TP Berahino has done his dirty washing in public and caused us a lot of trouble and TP has turned him around knowing its probably his last season with us but he just needed to get him playing again with the right intention and I think he's done that and formed an okay partnership with Rondon who has started scoring some very important goals for us to. Mcclean has his views based on his upbringing again TP has told him he respects his views but remember to have some respect for the country you earn your wages from and of late he's also knuckled down and I think he's one of the better wingers we have for speed and getting crosses in. Pulis is no mug he knows how to get the best from what he's got and we are still one of the cheapest teams in this league but were solid and solvent and no longer a yo yo team at a critical time for the PL we are safe and in it for another season. I don't have time to comment further as I'm off to work but hopefully come the end of the season we might all look back thank the good lord above we're not in Villa's place appreciate we are the top of the west midlands teams again and have achieved 49 pts plus eh!

"Said with venom" - fair comment. But McClean would probably prefer to be called a "thick Irish loudmouth" than a "thick FAT loudmouth" (or whatever. He's proud to be Irish - I was proud when I lived in Leeds to be called a Brummy bastard - much better than a useless bastard (or whatever). "Shite player" might rankle with him, but this is what this Forum is for.
Rainbow brings a bit of passion to this board, I think. He really cares about the Albion. Keep it going, Rainbow. You're controversial, but it adds some spice.
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with

I take it back against Sandro as I thought he linked up pretty well with Fletcher yesterday and actually made a few forward passes
so could be a decent signing if we decide to take the option up on him.
