Should Pulis be manager next season?
#21
Great debates, and very interesting to read all the viewpoints. I think we ALL agree that the football at the moment is dire and embarrassing, but it's likely to provide us with ongoing PL football - however, is that enough if we become so bad to watch that no-one DOES watch any more?!

Can the TP leopard change his spots? If he was HC of Chelsea would he still build off a sound defensive base ("yes"!) but then compliment that with offensive midfielders and forwards that were fast and creative? I think so - but he'd still insist that they rolled their sleeves up and did their bit defensively. So will TP play a more expansive game next year with the bigger budget available?
Sadly I don't think he will. as every club will be in the same boat - and what decent creative player will want to work under TP!?

It all seems to smack of JP being absolutely determined to keep us up this season - so keeping TP is a no-brainer - in order to sell a 'stable' PL club in the summer; the new owners can then make that important decision.

The frustrating thing with him with us is that we DO have some creative players but TP continues to not play them consistently. Also, and for me this is the MOST frustrating trait that we have, with all the defensive minded midfielders we have, we don't actually press the opposition, we just let them have the ball, come forward and then rely on them either losing it or at some late stage us throwing a tackle in when it's got to the penalty area!

Why the fek don't we press? Josh - where are you? Please explain!

Why do I want a different manager ?

Iam sick of been last on Match Of The Day due to the total shite style of play.

If we were losing 6-0 we would not be last on MOTD. But because we are gaining points from N/w and London clubs we are last. The powers that decide these things hoping that putting Little old Baggies on last will not embarrass their favoured few. DD Whistle Whistle

I'm with Tibby. If Pulis keeps us up this season, it's job done, and he can go.
The next question is, who can come in, use the summer transfer window effectively, and take us forward?

Can't believe it !

Out of 22 'Babbler's, 2 have voted for Pulis to remain our HC next season. Unbelievable!  They must be raving, fecking bonkers watching from armchairs, if they are prepared to accept the shite Pulis serves up each week.

Pulis should be transported to become National Team Manager for the Pitcairn Islands and, like Fletcher Christian, never seen again. The Pulis disease and contamination needs to be expunged from every crevice and corner of the club.

Other than that, he's a decent chap !

You're obviously softening towards him BM Laugh

In my opinion, he was brought in to do a job (i.e. avoid relegation) so that we can dip our fingers into the greed league's honeypot for next season.

Job almost done and now we need to move on and look for real progress next season.
At season's end,TP should be thanked, paid off and replaced.

But then comes the next conundrum.........with whom.

We did consider (Paul?) Clement in the past and he's just been sacked by Derby as they are only fifth in the table.
I wonder what plans Man City's manager has for next season and could we afford him?
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.

You only have to look at the turnover of managers in all divisions to see that 'success' needs to be instant nowadays.

I firmly believe that JP has already made his mind up re. Pulis and that we will have a new manger in place in the summer. A massive gamble, in my book, but as we have already seen, JP is not one to shy away from making the big calls.

If you believe some rumours JP might be selling up this summer. If he is then he would not make this call - the new owners would.  Maybe that's all JP is worried about - the buying price of a club with potential and sat in the Premiership rather than a club heading south (any buy for Villa might look to us instead).

JP has invited buyers the last few seasons, I think it is clear he would want out, and what a time to do it with the money coming in. He has done wonders for the club behind the scenes, tight with the purse strings at times but sensible. Rather be in the Premiership and stable than be similar to Portsmouth/Bolton etc...

I would like to see a creative manager come in, however people from the likes of La Liga may now be put off after the Pepe Mel debacle

Silver.... Love the man and I don't need to take my sleeping pills anymore - just watch a recording of one of our games for soporific effect.

You ask 'WHO NEXT'.

Nigel Pearson. He's another one who's raving, fecking bonkers so would fit in nicely and, with what is fundamentally HIS team, are currently sitting top of the pile with a similar size/type of club.

My choice would be David Moyes to be honest.

Worked miracles at Everton with a very modest budget for years, and let's face it he got shafted at United and not backed in the transfer market at all.

Admittedly I didn't follow him at Real Sodiedad in La Liga so can't comment on his performance there, but I think whilst at Everton his team always had the right balance of defence and attack and I think he'd be the best choice to both improve the entertainment factor of our football; while keeping things solid enough to remain safely in the league.

Even though I'm pondering his replacement I cannot fault the job that Pulis has done for us since he's been here other than the entertainment factor, but let's be honest, that's not what he was brought in to do first and foremost.

We're literally within touching distance of safety this season and with it the big £££ coming up with the new TV deal and Pulis has made that happen. His record remains that of the most successful of our managers in the premier league era; it's just a shame that couldn't have been achieved with a style that is a little bit easier on the eye as it hasn't won him any fans.

Let's look at it another way,

Who here can say Pulis deserves to be sacked?

On that alone, my answer would be no he doesn't.

We pick up points in games we wouldn't expect to, he comes across as a likeable no nonsense character, yes his style of play may not be to everyone's liking but is that really a sackable offence?

The thing I think everyone would be happy with is just more attacking and exciting football.

But based on what he's done at the club, he certainly does not deserve to be sacked.
