Always liked JS he wasn't as good as Cookie but gave us a great season that first one at the Proact .Im hopeful the Wilson /Morgan era will be better than either .

Yeah Sheridan was a good manager. Did well in his first season with us just missing out on playoffs and then first season at b2net/Proact he turned it into a fortress and won the league. Then in L1 he was just unlucky with injuries and had to rely on loannees but brought us silverware in the JPT.

When Cookie was appointed manager no one had heard of him and I think a lot were apprehensive including myself and he got us to finish in a respectable position and then second season turned us into the Barcelona of L2 and just missed out on winning the JPT for a second time. Third season he worked miracles with the squad he had and had an opportunity of promotion to the Championship but just missed out and had a great run in the FA Cup.

The Wilson/Morgan era has got off to a promising start and looking at the league table there's no reason why we can't aim for playoffs or just outside again as only need 3 or 4 wins and we could be in the mix again.

To reach the play-offs from our current position we'd need about 12 wins and three draws. That leaves five defeats to the end of the season. Danny would get the freedom of Ashgate and Old Brampton if he achieved that. Me, I'm going for seven wins to keep us up.

I think as far as Mr Sheridan goes absence has made the heart grow fonder. You could argue he bullied his players and gained promotion because he brought together three players in excellent goalscoring form. He failed to plan his Division One campaign and made no provision at all for losing his goal machine. He then had no idea how to pull out of his relegation tail-spin. He brought in Leon Clarke on loan, who topped the scoring charts and was dragging us back up the division, then allowed him to go and we plummeted. The Johnsons isn't a trophy managers plan to win. Because of it though we kept him on and we started the next season exactly as we'd ended the previous one. He didn't get Plymouth up and didn't care enough even to settle in the area. He grabbed the lifeline at Newport, achieved ephemeral success which seemed to be running out when the Oldham offer came along.

Good manager? Not the worst, but he needs to show he's more than a one-trick pony. IMO he's not in the same league as Paul Cook, though maybe they'll soon be swapping divisions ...... hope not. Don't want Oldham to go down.

Destroyed Jamie Lowry's career and didn't have an eye for young talent. Other than signing his mates son (Jr Waddle) who was poor (am being polite Dev) I cant honestly remember him giving many a chance. Relied on loans to keep us up and that was his downfall.
Thanks for the 1 season JS, I personally would never want to see him back with us. What makes a good manager? IMO he just wasn't one. On the touchline he was obnoxious at times and had as much charisma in interview as a plank of wood. On second thoughts am doing the plank of wood a disservice. His constant vitriol against Lowry was embarrassing.
If it was as is alleged, the drink at the time, then good luck to him and Oldham. Am not sure though, maybe he was just a miserable so and so.

I can't really argue Dancing.

Jamie was a good-hearted player whose only mistake was to get a serious injury. At that point he was probably our best player - something Sheridan never seemed to get. And he did wreck his career, not once but twice!

Though I didn't get many chances to experience it live, he was also a very negative and embarrassing presence on the sidelines. On the other hand he was a skilled intelligent player, who I think really understands the game - it's just living creatures he has problems with.

He also did provide the worst goalkeeping selection against his beloved Oldham ....... in the entire history of mankind.

Getting either a decent shave, or a proper beard and smartening himself up might also tick a couple of boxes.

Jamie Lowry was one of my favourite players. I remember we moved him from RB to playing in midfield and he was scoring goals but then he got injured whilst on trial with Derby and was never the same player after that.

It was a serious injury Matt and Jamie needed sympathetic handling and encouragement to rebuild his career.

Don't think sympathy and encouragement are in the Sheridan vocabulary. Both words do have more than four letters after all.

Yeah it was a serious injury and he should have been given the support and confidence to rebuild his career. It took nearly 2 years for him to play a game for us again and then went on loan to Crewe and then joined Plymouth and went to play non-league back down Devon. He now is a coach at Godolphin Athletic.
