West Brom defender Jonas Olsson on Sky Sports: "Everyone who watched the game saw that there was not much in it. Both teams wanted a result. We were solid and stuck to our game plan and had a few chances in the second half. In the end, it is a good point for us."
He's on message, anyway, though it doesn't sound like the game I was following. No point sniping at each other over who said what when TP was appointed. He was welcomed as someone who'd never been relegated and who might possibly have developed as a manager at Palace. And we stayed up, but it doesn't look now as if he'd really changed from the stuff we all loathed. That's all.

Of course you're allowed your opinion, but like I say it's sometimes better to have a little bit of perspective and take a few deep breaths first.
It's clear we still need strengthening in all areas (TP has said this too) and that will happen. Please remember that the team isn't complete yet! It's hard to accept but the vital thing today was to get a point because our start is so difficult. Performance comes second.

It's hard to have a go at Pulis after he came in last season and did a really good job in rejuvenating a squad that was completely in the doldrums and in my opinion, looked a dead cert for relegation.
However... The problem is that his business in the transfer market doesn't look like it's pushed us on at all. Chester, McManaman, McLean cost the best part of £15million and are not deemed good enough for a start. Worrying for the midfielders when they're being kept out by the likes of Gardner. We're really not big enough to be spending that sort of money on squad players. Rondon I can understand not starting, because he's just come in, unfortunately I don't think it matters who we have up top when the 'supply' is nothing more than 60 yard punts. We're desperate for a couple of midfielders with some athleticism who can actually get closer to the forwards from open play, unfortunately we've already blown a big budget on players who appear to be no better than the dross we already have at the club. Overall, it's a point on the board, away from home. So that's something. But there's little else to take from this performance and frankly it looks like we're still 4-5 players short. I expect Saido will go to United or City on deadline day, which will leave us even weaker than we are now. Worrying times and hopefully we just need a few games to 'bed in'. But my gut feeling is that none of the midfielders who started today really have a 'second gear' to improve on that. Think all we can hope for is grind out performances with the odd chance coming from a corner.

1996, you are perfectly right.
If Pulis had to come to The Hawthorns, he should have been given a contract only to the end season. If we are honest, we all know what crap football we will see under this pathetic excuse for a Manager/HC. We will see dross upon dross with no width, no pace and no skill. The other thing that really pee's me off is how people will just settle for 'survival' ! Is that all we as a club aspire to ? I want us to be watching exciting football and challenging for at least a top ten finish. Will we get that under Pulis ? I doubt it very much.

me, I am neither a pro or against at this stage. When I first saw our opening fixtures, the top two teams in the country at home and a newly promoted team away, a team that would be fired up, full of running and as confident as you like, I felt any points gained would be a bonus, let the season settle and all the comings and goings are done and dusted then judge, but not a single shot on target according to my app is not a good stat nor is 35% possession, we need to buck up or Saido will be off.

Slick do you seriously believe that Mozza doesn't have a 2nd gear to improve on that today? The fact is that he and others are being played out of position in a very flat defensive system. That is why they are looking so poor. Also I think these players are having all of the football coached out them.

Bierzo Baggie here from Ponferrada, northern Spain. Didn't see the match but I'll just say that Quique Flores is a top manager and Watford could just be the surprise package this season. Pulis is ...Pulis, his sides will always be frustrating to watch at times and if Berahino had put that header away near the end we'd all be a cheerier bunch. Anyway, I'll at least reserve judgement for a few more games, hope it all starts to gel with the new players ... up the Baggies!

May 68, you should be awarded with two additional 'stars' and be promoted to Senior Member with sensible comments like that. Well done !

If Praet did not like our football against City he will hate our football today, I hoped for an exciting young footballer with great prospects to join us, that has been blown clean away, hope he does not join the vile.
