Shortened thread today.  Its been a while since we had a decent cup run in either competition and in the League Cup we start with a home game against Mansfield Town.  There is always that conundrum though, do we want a cup run or do we want to focus on the league??  I am not sure which I want this season so until then we need to go out and win this one, as we should be very capable of doing, and then we can see where it takes us.

After the win yesterday and seeing a couple of players being subbed with cramp I expect CC to make wholesale changes for this one and field those players who missed out on Saturday.  The following is my prediction for the opening line-up:

THE OPPOSITION - MANSFIELD TOWN

They are in League 2 currently and drew at home on Saturday with Carlisle in their opening game.  They won the  Conference in  2012-13 to get back into the  league and since then have finished 11th and 21st in the last two seasons.  At this stage of the League Cup last season they were also in Sheffield, losing 2-1 to the Blunts on that occasion.

Our head to head against them isn't great P12, W3, D5, L4, with the last match being in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in 1990-91, a game we won 2-0 at their place.  The last season we were in the same league was our promotion season from Division 3, 1979-80 when we drew both games with them.  We have never beaten them in the league, but have won all the cup ties (with one replay required), so thankfully this is a cup game!!!
