McManaman and Fletcher were hardly negative signings while Martin Olsson who was a definite target is an

Yes, it's dull right now, but let's not lose sight of what Pulis was recruited for - which was to keep us in the
league with a fairly mediocre set of players.

2-0 loss to a bog standard team. They absolutely bossed us, we had no heart, never looked like scoring,

At least under Pulis we look like we have some bottle. Even in the games we've lost, we've had a decent go.
And when we play sides who are better than us, we try to stifle them rather than letting them walk all over
us like Arsenal and Everton at home under Irvine.

We've been playing dog awful football for a couple of years now. The football under Irvine was boring, negative
tripe as well. It's been a slow transition with good players leaving and not being replaced.

Sorry, Drewks, but I'd put Watford, Boro, Norwich (or whoever)  ahead of us to stay up next Year.

It's pretty obvious that is due to a dislike of Pulis rather than any realistic football reasoning. We have a better squad already than every one of the Championship top 6 and we will be ahead of all of them in the eyes of players and agents trying to sign for a PL club (bar loanees from the Watford owners' other clubs). 

The increased TV money will have an impact as well, it puts us ahead European clubs of a similar size (and even larger ones) in terms of the fees and wages we can offer. Therefore we have the advantage over them for any players from abroad we might go in for (in before "TP only signs English players").

a)  I don't "dislike Pulis". (I didn't dislike him before he came.) I did dislike his style of play, though, if that's what you mean.

b)  You probably made the same points this time last year, and I would have expected to have the edge over the 3 promoted Clubs - but we're pretty well on a par. However, some key players have faded SINCE then, notably Yacob, Mulumbu, Brunt, Lescott and McCauley (of late), Gardner (c/w his Sunderland form), Anichebe. The Income has been pretty well squandered since 12 months ago, and the Recruitment Team don't come up with the gems they used to. And I'm not optimistic that Pulis knows a good player when he sees one if his recruitment record with Stoke was anything to go by. We're an ageing squad, and need to recruit some fresh legs if, indeed, we're not going to rely on 11 players shuffling around our half of the pitch, and relying on solo efforts from our Berahino replacement.

1. Two of them look relegated while the other has spent the majority of the season at the bottom and are still 6 points behind us. We are 13th and pretty much safe.

2. I'll judge him by his record of signing players at Albion: one is our captain and consistently one of our best performers and the other has been injured but was direct, nimble and quick when he came on against Liverpool and nearly won us the game. Average height: 5'10.5"

The Liverpool game was like an away performance. We set out for a point and got it.
I believe we are safe now so TP has done what he was brought in to do - survival.
Under AI we were going down no doubts about it. 10 years of hard work going up in smoke.
Let's see what players are brought in to replace an ageing squad and how they perform then judge TP.
The Pullis haters will not be swayed. We win and its lucky, we lose and they criticise.
The style of play isn't great at the moment but the results on the whole have been under TP.

Because there was no need for the irrelevant one-upmanship at the end of what was an otherwise good, on-point post. Exchanging opinions is fair enough; making presumptions about the circumstances or plans of other posters is somewhat fatuous. Hence that line being removed from the original post and from the subsequent quote in yours.

I'm sure there must be far more extreme examples of irrelevant one-upmanship on this site if one could be arsed to look for them.  I agree with Squirrel's contention and it is my opinion that not all the Albion critics on here attend matches.  It is my opinion that the deletion was a fairly arbitrary and footling action.  We're ok with opinions, aren't we?

I thought it was all part of the banter.  The only time I would consider flagging up comments would be if I considered them to be personal, crude or threatening to anyone but I'm sure that you would soon be on those cases anyway, Ska'd.

I see where you're coming from on the banter point, but it's a tricky one; some people who're passionate about their club can genuinely be kept from attending matches by physical disability/infirmity or financial issues (i.e. redundancy, bankruptcy, or just the familiar problem of trying to support a family on a low-paying job), and trying to get a dig in on someone like that - even if it's meant in a friendly way - is really hitting them where it hurts. Far better in my view to just leave the assumptions at the door when you sign in and debate the opinions alone.

Any road, I'm happy to leave it there; the only other thing I'd say is that as site admin and owner, Stairs will always get the final call on what is or isn't acceptable, and I'll moderate by whatever rules he lays down, so if anyone ever feels I'm being excessively harsh or censorious on a topic then give him a shout, and we'll try and work things out.
