What would a video ref have to do with injuries?

Think we got our wires crossed, I wasn't talking about injuries.
I meant all other decisions in general if the ref wasn't sure or if he missed an incident the 5th official would prompt him but the final decision should be with the ref...but it would help the ref more and the game would then have a fairer reflection on whatever the result may be.

I know the technology is there and I have no problem using it if its right for the game. Goal line technology is fine as its an instant decision and the act of scoring a goal stops the game anyway. I think even if you put in strict guidelines as to how it should be used, it would only be a matter of time before its expanded.
What would you propose it be used for? Which decisions would be reviewable? For me it can only be decisions where the game has already stopped and not a case of stopping the game to review something. If there is a penalty appeal but the ref does not think its a penalty, that should not be reviewed imo, as that would require the game to stop or be brought back. Imagine a situation where a defender challenges in the box, ref doesn't give the pen, defender clears the ball up field and the striker gets clean through and scores, all in the space of 30 seconds, how would you review that?? I would also be totally against all 50/50 decisions being reviewed, the game would be too stop-start, refs need to call the game as they see it and I would prefer to see an extra on field ref rather than video review.

I think that video and fifth refs an all that Blatter bollix will have such a negative impact on the game. The best thing that could happen is Blatter fucks off into the sunset with all his money he has 'made' and our game is left as it is with refs sometimes getting it wrong, mostly getting it right, infuriating the fans of one side or t'other throughout the game and giving all the fans something to crow about/winge about for the week ahead.
I don't mind the idea of technology for the is it a goal or not and I don't mind the ref being linked up to the linesmen... but that is all. The thought of soccer going the Rugby route is dreadful. So I'm a Luddite. I don't care. If it ain't broke don't fix it.... ![]()

Your last line is a good point Wellowlbe, in reality how many key decisions are the refs getting wrong anyway?? Most of the penalties that are given are the correct call and those that are debatable are just that, debatable. Even after replays over and over again, some of the penalty claims that are turned down by the ref and the ones given are still not 100% clear after replays are shown. At the end of the day a lot of what goes on in football on the field is based on an opinion, usually the refs opinion at the time of the incident, and I have not seen a ton of evidence to show that a lot of these are wrong decisions!!

According to Keith Hacket on "You Are The Ref," the referees consult with their assistants on average about 20 times per match but fans don't realise this because they communicate via earpieces now so only notice it when their headset isn't working. Blatter is against the use of technology. He blocked goal line technology for twelve years & was outvoted so it came in. He is also against other technology but is being pressured by others in football to introduce it so he has proposed this one challenge per half to stop more technology in football. When Blatter goes, I expect technology will come in more. Last season, Wednesday had ELEVEN penalties turned down incorrectly by referees. If we had scored all of them, we would have had 14 more points. Add in the mistake not to send off the Wigan keeper & we were on the wrong end of many decisions. A lot of fans are turning their back on football (although this doesn't show so much as it is attracting a new breed of fan in equal numbers) and a lot of it is down to refereeing errors, diving, shirt pulling & the wrong team winning due to poor refereeing.

As I said, I think it should only be used if the ref isn't sure or if he wants clarification.
On a more slightly ridiculous note, why don't ref's have a "smart-watch" on their wrist and then the replay from the 5th official gets streamed to the ref's watch, then he can watch it & decide from wherever he is on the pitch and not have to take the 5th official's word for it or have to go to the sideline.

The 'manager challenges' are Blatters idea

The manager challenges will mean that technology is used by the officials
