It's not tomorrow, it's today

The last scheduled home night game of the season, on the mudflats of Deepdale agaianst our Yorkshire visitors who are probaly surprosed as we are to both be in the play off, zone.

Good win for them at Southampton, whilst ran aground at home to a Derby side who played the condiions better than we did.
Luckily it's the last game on the pitch for 18 days, which should give it some time to recover from the battering it has had.

They have signed YU from Bristol City who scored at Deepdale after basically picking up the ball and throwing it into the net.

PNE 10 TIGERS 15

Team News

Dan Iversen is unlikely to be fit for the contest after missing out on the Derby County clash at the weekend.

Andrew Hughes also remains a doubt, whilst Robbie Brady and Andrija Vukčević continue working back to full fitness.

The Visitors

Coming into the contest, Hull City sit directly above North End in the Championship standings.

The Tigers have been potent in front of goal this term, with their return of 42 strikes only bettered by Ipswich Town and Coventry City at this stage in the campaign.

Hull are without a win at Deepdale since 2021, but have been extremely successful on their travels this season. Their tally of 21 points away from home is only two shy of league leaders Coventry, which ranks Sergej Jakirović’s side as one of PNE’s toughest home challenges yet.

Hard to know where to start with that, let's go to the shambolic ending, three down to a Hull side who hadn't really had to break sweat, the combustable Montenegran finally combusted, his last couple of performances have been giving the sign "I'm a Montenegran, the transfer window is open, get me out of here" type of performances.
To be fair to him, he doesn't get a lot of protection, but you can't go round giving it headbutt, what is a truly shambolic was yet another mass brawl by those in the technical area, one on Saturday, one tonight, another fine, wonderful, Murphy the free kick and defensive coach sent off and I think someone for the Hull bench also walked, just nuts behaviour.
Have now seen the sending, their guy pulls him back and mouths "come on" to Os, their heads are together and Os pushes his further on and Lungstrom goes down.
As for the game, nothing really happened for the first 30 plus minutes, our build up was ponderous all City had to do was to defend deep and wait for us to pass to them as we did on a regular basis throughout the night.
As for the goals, we are at our most vulnerable when we get corners, the short corner routine, Thompson duffed his shot, Small effort was blocked and away went Babajide giving his impression of Usain Bolt, Thompson didn't have the speed to catch him and Pol was on the other side of the pitch, ball to Millar, weasy tap in, he didn't celebrate should have done, mind you if we had potted Lowe when we should have done he would have been playing for us.
The second came after we semi cleared a corner, Famewo fired home from about 12 yards, the third after the break was keeper error, McBurnie's hopeful punt into the area went towards the corner flag, ball ended up with Yu, ball crossed back into the box, McBurnie spectacular attempt to volley it, don't think he catches it well but it slithers through the keepers hands, game well and truly over, they could have had more, didn't matter, points had long gone.
SHAMBLES

THE BOSS

Paul Heckingbottom was left frustrated with his team’s performance following their 3-0 defeat at home against Hull City.

The Tigers’ clinical nature saw them net three times without reply, with PNE unable to create much to trouble Ivor Pandur’s goal.

Speaking after the match, North End’s boss felt like his side was firmly second-best on the night.

“I'm really disappointed,” admitted Hecky. “I feel it's the first time since I've been here that we've been dominated physically for 90 minutes. (There was) nothing in the game really, first half.

“I felt we had control again with the ball for large spells, but when we did create opportunities, when we did get in behind them, we either didn't take them, or when we put probably the three best balls across the box, there's no one there to get the tap in. So that's the disappointing thing.

“As a group, we're disappointed with that because generally, we defend our box really, really well, as the season has shown. Today, too many of us had off days.”

After two home defeats in four days, PNE’s next contest comes in the form of an away trip to Middlesbrough.

Hecky believes that North End must learn from their loss at Deepdale tonight, while turning attention to the upcoming contest at the Riverside.

“Every game is totally different,” stated the boss. “What we do take from that is how far off it was from how we want to perform.

“Away games are different to home games. Every opposition team sets up differently. So, the challenges are totally different.

“You've got to park the last game and move on to the next straight away. But there are things in that performance today which we must recognise, that we must identify.

“Because it's things that throughout the season we've not shown. So, we'll see if it's a blip or not.”
