The problem is the fans' expectations. Managers aren't given time. Corberan was given time only because his team were playing in empty stadiums due to the pandemic. In the second season we got to Wembley.
Grant should've been given til this time next year to prove himself but the fans won't have that.
Even Warnock had a bad first season with us, almost getting us relegated. But there were no hissy fits from fans. No booing as soon as we go one down. No telling the players that they're not fit to wear the shirt.
When we got relegated, a lot of people said to strap in because this won't be easy. And that's dead right. We have no right to instant success even if you do throw loads of money in.

Times change, things are getting faster, including how quickly defenders pass to the opposing centre forward on the edge of their own area ......
fYour argument doesn't always work Snoots. I remember Chesterfield giving Gary Caldwell time to recruit his own team after presiding over half our relegation from Divison One. He gave us a team which wouldn't even register on the XG scale dor Division 2 and though we did finally get rid of him, like all the king's horses and all the king's men no one could put poor Humpty together again.
I must admit though I wouldn't have expected horses to be great at reassembling a broken egg .......

Manning appointed. More sideways and backwards football then?
Fans know we're not going to win every match, but there's a minimum amount of effort, application, having a go up front, defending properly at the back that should be put in to make the performance acceptable. If the other sides keeper has a blinder, well, it happens occasionally. We did just enough on Saturday to be 1-1 at half-time, we didn't do anywhere near enough in the 2nd half and that's been the problem for nearly half of our games this season.
Meanwhile we've got another manager in where "We are in the fortunate position that the brand of football and identity of team that our supporters hope for is in complete agreement with both the Club and Liam’s outlook."
Where have I read that before? Copy and paste from at least the last 10 appointments.

The thing is you are still in sixth place, a play-off position. You have scored the most goals in your division, but only three teams have conceded more.
The problem is simple - ridiculously obvious - you have won too few and lost too many. How many moans would there have been if you had won 13 and lost 8 games? Would that have been failure? Are you necessarily playing the wrong way if you are scoring the most goals? Are the adjustments you DO obviously need major, or a few minor tweaks? Two games only with different results .... Lee Grant would still be in place and you'd all be looking up not down!
Your expectations were and are justifiably high, and you have spent on "success", but spending in Divison One is relatively minor. How much bang can you expect for your buck at this level? It is easy to waste money on players who aren't quite what they are reputed to be.
A measure I would be tempted to look at is Goodman on loan. He has spent two seasons on loan elsewhere being largely lauded and considered for international age-group squads. With you he became a mistake-ridden failure. That suggests to me something is wrong and it wasn't necessarily down to the individual himself - he isn't the only player who has performed way below his ability. Castledine on the other hand flourished.
