Well, let's hope it's a better punt than the last one...

He says he is a thoroughly nice guy, knows his stuff and could not say enough good things about him. Not sure how much weight that carries in a higher division and being the head honcho outright. Many managers have tried and failed at the Albion. Good luck and happy hunting to whoever gets the hot seat.

My fingers have all merged into a stump having been firmly crossed for the last few managerial appointments

Ramsay and Mason have a lot in common. Few important differences are based around he will give youth a chance and he likes fast attacking football. These were what we were asking Mason for every week and he never delivered.
All we can do is see if he gets the gig and if he can get a few wins playing attractive football with a couple of youngsters thrown in. Time will tell. Play well enough and a play off place is still a possibility. COYB.

Eric Ramsay confirmed by the club, at least they haven’t left us hanging around for ages.
His grandad Alf did OK so let’s hope for similar.
Can’t say that I’m particularly overjoyed by this appointment as it’s just as big of a risk as Mason was, but it does show that the club have belief in the project and long term plan that’s being put in place as it’s almost a like for like replacement. The squad is younger, as intended, some of the youth players have been brought through, the coaching staff is young and fresh etc.
Something that worries me is his Minnesota team played with 5 defenders, and from what I’ve read were primarily a counter attacking side, and sit very deep defensively. Now, I’ve read on Reddit from some of their fans about how he wanted to play attacking football when he took over and then changed to the defensive shape because of what he had at his disposal. I hope he isn’t going to come to the Albion and do a Ruben Amorim and try to shoehorn this team into playing with 5 defenders as it won’t suit the team and players that we have. That adaptability shown to find a setup for the players there is a good sign though, so hopefully he can do that with us. I don’t think Mason had that in his locker.

IMO he will try and bring a couple of the kids through while making us hard to beat. I'm sure he will pack the defence and look for fast break outs. Should get rid of the tip tap let's await the opposition to trot back and get in position that we've seen for quite a while now. If a couple of kids can force their way into the team this gives less need to buy so that's a win win. I'm sure Ramsay will add a couple anyway. Ramsay himself posted he's been watching videos of this season's games, reducing his time getting to know what players can do. This is a big plus IMO. Far too many managers come here blind and the first couple of months are wasted "getting" to know the players. At interview stage they should have done a lot of homework, if not we shouldn't be interested in them. Interesting times ahead. I got a positive feeling about Ramsay. The biggest problem will be with any manager we have who is successful is actually hanging on the them.

And PLEASE, goodbye to the stupid, tepid, negative, bland tippy-tappy around OUR penalty area which does absolutely nothing apart from leading directly to conceding goal after goal! |
