Lincoln on New Year's Day

Crap, 2nd best for all but for about 10 minutes. Another chance missed to gain ground on the top 3 and another game against a top half team that we have failed to win.
Start of the season objective by the club was top 2. Today we failed to close that gap and have one fam we less to do so.

Surprised at all the negative comments about the match. But then again, not really. A lot of people think that spending a load of money should guarantee success. That's not how it works.

I thought it was a good performance against one of the better teams in the division. Lincoln were better in the first half. We were better in the second. Fair result.

First half was shocking, we weren’t even at the races never mind in one. Second half was better but the bar is very low.
Our record against top half teams when we’ve come up against them is poor, our record against the top 6 is abysmal.
Grant leaving the subs too late and bringing Charles on in the 94th minute is a joke.

Lincoln just beat Stockport, Cardiff and Barnsley. A point yesterday was really something to be celebrated. Yes we cudda got stuffed, but we didn't.

Keeper saved from May to stop us going 2-0 up. Wudda been 3 points.

The question that needs to be asked though is. Why was Harness marking Sonny Bradley at the corner they scored from?

What a mis-match.

Yet another of my comments after the game yesterday apparently went to SportsBabble heaven. There was another one earlier in the week too on another thread. Try again.

I got home just in time to see Town score, followed shortly afterwards by Lincoln equalising. Watching the replay, the Town defender (cough) marking the Lincoln player that got the first touch back across the box (Harness and Bradley?) wasn't even looking at the ball coming in from the corner. If he had been he might have had a chance of clearing it. It wasn't a header. Not sure you can blame the coach for that. That's the players decision. Likewise, May's 2nd chance for a goal. He chose to try drive it through the keeper rather than chip it over him. Didn't see the first half at all, but given they are 2nd I didn't expect them to roll over like they did in the EFL Tin Pot Trophy match either. From what I've read and the few minutes of highlights I've seen, a draw was a fair result.

Yes, we still need to be better against top 8 clubs if we are serious about going up. Doubt that we'll be replacing Grant with Maresca this side of Easter though.

PS - good to see Alves was back on the bench even if he didn't get on the pitch.

Harness wasn't watching because Bradley had spun him around by the neck. Surely we put Murray Wallace on somebody like that?

Unfortunately in the modern game of zonal marking it's always the big lads that end up having the zone with the aim of just winning the ball. For me it should be a hybrid with at least one or two big lads marking their big lads. Zonal leads to too much confusion
