Mason is after his pay off cheque.
Looks as though he may get it.

Same old story. Totally wrong selection. Best players left out. Price back in at number 10. Tip tap around at the back and gift the opposition a goal.
Get whalloped and then go gung ho chasing the game. Better players brought on, have a good go but too little too late. Why on earth does he start Diakite? We just never get a result with him in the team... Prior to tonight, Diakite has started 6 games, we have lost 4, drawn 1 and won 1. The win was against Oxford at home and the draw against Sheffield Wednesday. He's absolute dog. He's got no legs. Can't defend. Can't play. The other week after Mulumby was sent off he came straight back in. But he was dropped tonight. None of Mason's decisions make any sense... I was gobsmack Wildsmith started again... Johnston benched yet again. That's the 3rd time he's been dropped for no reason. Been consistently our best performer. Why? The fact we won the 2nd half and kept the result reasonable means that Mason might keep his job, but he just gets it all wrong over and over again. He never picks the best team. He can't seem to fathom trying to select players in alternative positions - Styles or Beilik would be better options than Diakite in the middle of the park, for example. He's out of his depth and yet another season has passed us by.

Got Hearts top of the table so might be a bad move for him at the moment, but of course the ceiling is higher here should he succeed and he is a club legend. Tiago Motta with the Bologna link with our owners? Probably dreaming on that one... Brendan Rodgers has had a pretty good career but probably not desirable enough to get a Prem job anymore, so could be an option. Dave Challinor if we were looking for someone with a good record in the lower leagues. Or if we want a to take a real punt, how's about Robbie Savage? Half joking, but has more pedigree than Mason. I'm sure there are plenty more out there but that's just a few that quickly came to mind. I don't think many managers could do worse than Mason has tbh.

I don't see many supporters shouting Mason should stay. He's tried to bring tip tap from the back football as a game changer. Well it doesn't work in this division. Get a real man's man in to run the show and do it NOW.

Maybe the club will look at Paul Simonis again. He was heavily linked, and I think even interviewed, in the summer before the approach for Mason. He won the Dutch cup last season with Go Ahead Eagles and then went to Wolfsburg in Germany in the summer. Didn’t work out for him as he was let go a month ago. That club is a mess though.
Would be rather different to what we’ve had over recent years as his style of football is very attack minded and typical of Dutch football. |
