Glad for the points and Mason gets a pat on the back. Do or die substitutes saved the day. I for one won't get carried away over winning a home game against a side that had lost it's last 4 games.
Good to have a break from losing. Let's see what QPR game brings.

Yeah, let's hope RM is going to realise that sometimes changing things drastically AND POSITIVELY is the way forward! I'm sure that the spirit between the players will gain an awful lot now, being on the RIGHT side of a comeback like that!

90 minutes of absolute dross!! (Second half -v- Blues and first half today) followed by some of the best football we’ve played all season.
I really don’t know what to think. I’ll start with RM, still not convinced he is up to the job, but at least he changed things positively, and early, and surprise surprise he was rewarded. But his initial starting line up and set up were poor. It’s been said before that Price has gone off the boil, and there was nothing to suggest that had changed in the first half, but taking him off at half time was key to the second half improvement. Mikey’s freedom to attack down the right, supported by (substitute) Campbell with the same from Grant and styles down the left completely changed the game along with the new found confidence of Heggebo. Even Maja came on and looked like the player we know he can be. So there were some positives, but there were still too many issues (first half) to get carried away. Griffiths for me is not good enough yet, yes some great saves but too many poor mistakes that are costing us points. We are soley reliant on the creativity coming from Mikey but there needs to be more from elsewhere, and too many are blowing hot and cold, consistency, or lack of, is a real problem. Let’s not forget, Swansea are poor and most other team in the division would never have let us back in today. After all that, I’m still a very happy bunny tonight and just hope we can kick on and string a few good results together. It certainly looked at the end of the game like the whole squad got a much needed shot in the arm.

Didn't see the game today, so not going to pass judgement on any of the performance for the best part. I've only seen the goals.
When I saw the starting line up, it was exactly as I called it in the Blues thread. I said that he would probably bring in Illing-Junior for one of the wingers and continue with Price in the 10. Sure enough, Grant the result of his coin toss for who was dropped this week. As expected, everything else from an attacking point of view stayed the same despite us being totally impotent. Believe it or not, I do not know Mason; he's just that predictable... However, what I didn't predict was his half time changes. To change 4 players, including defenders, suggests that he knew it was do or die for him. To sacrifice Issac Price, clearly his favourite, shows how desperate he was. And without seeing the game, I don't know if was lucky or deserved, but with 2 proper strikers on, we've managed to score 3 goals in a half. We hadn't even mustered a goal per game all season long with 1 up top and Price monopolising the 10. We'll see if this is the turning point for Mason. If this is what makes him wake up and smell the coffee. If this is what makes him realise that attack is the best form of defence. If he realises that we can be more dangerous with 2 strikers and that we can't continue to carry Price as a 10. Time will tell, but I suspect it will just save his bacon for the time being. Make no mistake, the only reason he made the changes today was because it was do or die. As for what I did see, the goals, I thought both of the Swansea goals were goalkeeping errors. The first, I have no idea what he was doing in no man's land. The second, I'd have been gutted if I let that in during my 5 minute goalkeeping rotation in 5 a side. I'm not sure if we were that bad in the first half or if those schoolboy errors cost us. As for our goals, Heggebo's first was probably the first time I've seen a midfielder get that high up the pitch to roll a ball into his feet in that area. Clearly Mowatt was only that high because we were chasing the game. I always felt that if our midfield got higher and gave Heggebo that sort of service he would be a threat because it's clear the lad is strong, can pin defenders and play. It was good to see what he can do when he's given proper service. If this isn't proof that we need to be brave and stop the negativity, I don't know what is. |
