Port Vale defender Jack Shorrock has signed a new contract which will keep him at Vale Park until 2028.

The 18-year-old academy graduate made 22 appearances last season, scoring twice, as the Valiants secured immediate promotion back to League One.

Shorrock, who signed his first professional deal in 2024, was named League Two Apprentice of the Season at the EFL Awards.

"It's a step forward that I think I've earned, but there's no need to get ahead of myself," he told the club website, external.

"I just need to keep doing what I'm doing, and try to help the team as much as I can. I love it here; it's a great club full of great people, so I enjoy myself every single day."

Vale boss Darren Moore added: "Jack is a fantastic young man and talented player, who we believe has a really bright future ahead of him.

"This new contract recognises all of his hard work, and we're really pleased to be continuing his development here at Vale Park."

Port Vale have made their eighth signing of the summer after agreeing a season-long loan for Wrexham striker Mo Faal.

The 22-year-old joined the Red Dragons from West Bromwich Albion ahead of last season and went on to make eight substitute appearances as Wrexham won promotion from League One to the Championship.

Vale boss Darren Moore described Faal as "a promising young player with strong attributes, who will provide another great option for us at the top end of the pitch".

Ex-Cambridge keeper Marko Marosi, wing-back Jordan Gabriel, attacking midfielder Rico Richards, left-back Liam Gordon, midfielder Jordan Shipley, defender Cameron Humphreys and striker Ben Waine have all been recruited ahead of the new League One season.

Port Vale have signed Aston Villa goalkeeper Joe Gauci on a season-long loan.

Gauci, 25, has made two starts for Villa in the Carabao Cup since joining from A-League outfit Adelaide United in February 2024, following spells with Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City.

The 6ft 4in Australia international spent the second half of last season on loan at League One rivals Barnsley and is the Valiants' ninth signing of the summer.

"He's another player with experience of first-team and international football that will provide strong competition in the goalkeeping department here at Vale Park," Vale manager Darren Moore told the club website., external

"He will be welcomed straight in to the group and we're all looking forward to working with him this season."
