Did you see what Ruud Gullitt said about diving re. an incident in the Burnley game on MOTD, last night? Effectively it was that sometimes it's the player's responsibility to go to ground to ensure a referee realises an offence has been committed especially if a good goal-scoring attempt has been lost. However, I do agree Sessegnon's dive was disgusting. It was not only that, it was pathetic, laughable. Nil points!

Why was Sess 'dive' disgusting ?
He had his shirt pulled. Last week up in Sunderland had their fans irate when Lescott not sent off for at worst brushing his fingers on his back. Watch the replay Sess had his shirt pulled...end of ! Agree if no contact it's a dive but Rooney dives and people say it's ok cos he thought he would get fouled !!! The only reason it wasn't a penalty is because the shirt pull is the original foul and it is just outside the box. Have a clear photo of the shirt pull if anyone can't see it.

Other than an excellent clearing header from a Southampton cross from their left, his quality was zero. Crosses were constantly over hit, poor passing etc etc. I just don't know how he keeps getting selected over Poco or indeed anyone who could do a better job.

I agree re Brunty - as said before I actually thought he was our best defender yesterday! Strange how most of his high crosses have got so much worse since playing LB tho?
Even stranger how different people have such differing views too!

I agree that he has felt his shirt being pulled and gone to ground. Can't argue that the shirt pull wasn't enough to pull him off his feet but this is the modern game.
How many free kicks and penalties are given if there is contact. My point is Lineker and Shearer called him a cheat because they said there was no contact. He was having his shirt pulled so it was a foul(outside the box) Don't agree with the modern day footballer going down as soon as they feel contact but when you have players wrapping or keeping their leg out to get fouls and people going down without any contact I think calling Sess a diver when he was having his shirt pulled is harsh. Against West Ham Ideye should have had a penalty when he outrageously went round Nolan and got tripped. Feel sorry for the refs as they get one look at it not the slow mo replays we see but when pundits stick up for Rooney when there was no contact what so ever where does it end ? |
