Sometimes we're so tedious to watch. Pedestrian, standing football, doing little ball rolls under the studs ready for our pre-planned passing circle between the 2 centre halves and centre midfielder.
All while we're losing and supposed to be "chasing" the game...
I'm not going to blame the manager because it's completely familiar. We've seen this same performance under Corberan multiple times this season. The only difference is that on most occasions we have fashioned a draw rather than lost. A draw would've probably been a fair result today too. Derby's goals were fortunate and we had more of the ball, but that doesn't make it any less painful to watch.
But where are the winners in this team? The players taking the game by the scruff of the neck, driving us up the pitch? The players who want to win?
The only starters who really seem to want to drive forward and win were Mikey Johnston and Maja. All the rest seem happy to tip tap around in our own half.
John Swift is supposed to be our number 10 but looks like he would be happy collecting the ball of the centre halves all day and never crossing the halfway line. Surely a professional in that position is supposed to be busting a gut to score and create goals.
Obviously we need a new manager with his own ideas, but I think we're going to struggle to do anything with this personnel. We're short of legs, winning mentality, creativity.

Slick, I'd like to think that a new HC will be able to bring out the positive, attacking mentality in these players who, I do think, HAVE got the skills which, unfortunately, have not been encouraged recently.

I’ve felt all season that the one glaring omission is a free running, attacking midfielder; someone who will pick the ball up from Mowatt or Mulumby and who will run at pace and with intent at the opposition defence. You feel Swift ought to be that player….. and he isn’t

Came across this stat which does make you wonder about all this negativity about our play under CC, if the stat is correct (if anyone knows where to check it out)
In the 146-year history of West Bromwich Albion Football Club, 27 men have managed 60 or more matches. Carlos Corberán has the best win rate of them all. (49.35%)

That's a fantastic stat, and it is indeed correct. With the sixty-game minimum caveat, win rates are as follows:
1. Carlos Corberan - 49.35%
2. Roberto Di Matteo - 48.78%
3. Ron Atkinson - 44.03% [first spell only]
4. Vic Buckingham - 43.19%
5. Fred Everiss - 43.16%
6. Gary Megson - 42.53% [first spell only]
7. Gordon Clark - 42.42%
8. Johnny Giles - 42.35% [first spell only]
9. Henry Jackson - 41.94%
10. Tony Mowbray - 40.71%
Of our full-time managers overall, Jesse Carver had the best win-rate of 55.17%, but was only in charge for the first half of the 1952-53 season because he fell out with the club. Ossie Ardiles comes second with 54.55%, but falls five matches short of the sixty minimum.

It's an interesting stat that does prove he did well for us. However, it should come with the caveat that all of his games were in the Championship when we've spent most of our history in the top flight.
I'm sure Di Matteo, Megson and Mowbray would've had better rates if we only looked at their Championship games. However, they all got the club promoted and then we struggled in the following season.

Good performance today, probably as good as I've seen us on the road this season.
We looked far less ponderous on the ball than usual. Attacked with intent. There were some good performances.
Must say I prefer Heggem at centre back. Thought him and Barts were really solid today. Mulumby was excellent. Mikey showing signs of being back to his best. Good strike from Grant for the goal.
Just a shame that we gave Sheffield United the goal was some pathetic control in the middle of the park. Diakite did well otherwise, but that control was unforgivable.
I just wish we had a bit more composure when breaking away. We got into some good positions today, but the ball was a bit like a hot potato. We just need players to have a bit more calmness and pick the right pass rather than rushing it. But overall a good point and solid showing.
