Someone pointed out yesterday that when Southgate was appointed, Bruce and Pardew were in the frame. Perhaps he hasn't done such a bad job.
At least they shouldn't be in line for it this time.

Rumour has it when Southgate handed in his resignation they passed it him back so he then passed it Kane who passed it sideways to Bellingham who passed it backwards to Foden then Rice then even further back to Stones before Pickford ended up with it.

Sad to see Gareth go. Overall he's done well. He has got respect from the players which was lacking before he took over. Our movement has been poor but with all the negatives he still took us to the final. And we gave Spain a good game. He will be a hard act to follow. Potter or Howe would be the obvious choice. I'd give Klopp a shout if he was interested. He did a fine job with Liverpool.

I am not sad to see him go at all.

The man had potentially the best squad of players available to England for decades and yet he squandered them. If he had been motivational and creative he could have won two major tournaments but instead choked and became 'first loser' again.

In fact I'd go as far to say he managed to stifle and cancel out all of the natural football creativity and flair these players have.

It's like handing me the Man City squad and heralding my success because I managed to keep us in Champions League football.

Confused

100% agree.
Nice bloke, etc, and the only other positive about his tenure, to me, is that he seems to have created a good atmosphere within the squad, making players WANT to play for their country.
(Yup, it should always be so - you'd expect them to play for nothing, just for the honour, but the spoilt, ego driven twats of today aren't like us anymore!!)

Our players are massively overrated. I don't believe we have a single world class player. Our 2 best players on paper Kane and Bellingham looked very ordinary. Even our clubs are only on a par with other European clubs, but have spent many many more millions on players. With foreign managers and coaches it still doesn't quite happen. The desire is missing IMO. They're fitter then ever before, but alas without that get up and go we're only going to be nearly teams. The money has ruined the true game. It's become a financial ego trip for the wealthy nowadays.
